Nightmare Snowboards (who?) get all hipstamatic with their effects for this teaser for their web series ‘Lower Class, Higher Life’. They’re not giving all too much away in these 62 seconds but enough to wonder if these guys might be onto something: riding their own boards doesn’t seem like such a bad dream. Wrap your eyes around it and see for yourself. Disclaimer: you may or may not want to turn your volume right down before you hit play.

Let’s not beat around the Sugarbush – we’d never heard of this place before and frankly it sounds like the sort of thing you might want to discretely see a pharmacist about. But as it turns out this tiny resort up in Vermont has some fairly fun park features to check out, and hot damn who better to prove it than some hired goons. Watch our friendly neighbourhood Yawgoons in the slush and keep your eyes peeled for a megaphone backflip. Go.

STOP PRESS: SNOWBOARDING IS HIP FOR HIPSTERS AGAIN. Now before you all rant that snowboarding’s enough fun on it’s own and we don’t need any more gadgets on the mountain, and anyway you’re already busy instaboasting how nice a time you’re having… We know. But, on the off chance that one day your instabattery lasts all the way to the top of the park, it’s worth remembering that Switchback made us a dice app a while back to make sure we’re still down with the instakids. Just give it a little shake and let it decide what you’re going to do on the next rail. Then get your mates to do the same. Simples. Waitaminute, didn’t Horgmo already play this game once or twice without taking his phone out of his pocket? Where’s the ifun in that? But does the app tell you what the loser’s punishment should be? Watch these lads from Mountain High demo it for you, then download, shake, and slap a hashtag on it before your chums do.

Hard to deny he’s documented a huge period of our sport’s growth, and introduced the world to so many great talents.
Snowbombing’s not just about raving like a loon all aprés long and deep into the night too and then flying home a week later. Some people actually go riding too, Jamie Nicholls included.

Mayrhofen, April 2nd – 5th 2013 Vans Penken Park

The World’s funniest snowboard competition held at the Vans Penken Park in Mayrhofen and now in it ́s fifth year. Pro riders mixed up with Snowbombers battled for honour, goodies and a total prize money of 2000 Euros. Four days of shredding, beats and insane parties, here is what happend day by day:

Tuesday:

saw the Hotzone.tv pro snowboard shop, assemble some of Europe’s finest pro snowboarders and visiting snow bombers for their now legendary banked slalom run. With Germany’s Discodogs and Innsbruck’s Wax Wreckaz sending the sunbathing crowd into a schnapps induced frenzy. Local hero Rudi Kröll blew the competition away and after 5 immense laps, demolished the course more than anyone else to take home the gold.

Wednesday:

The weather was not as bleak as predicted or could it be the classic funk being blasted through the park by Mistajam, Skream, Artwork and Scarlett Etienne that blew the clouds away? The gap in the clouds allowed the assembled Hotzone.tv international pros and visiting snowbombers to throw down hammers on the specially designed kicker. With multiple backflips, frontflips and the occasional slam all being witnessed by the amassed rabble of spectators. With the Grillhofalm providing the fluids and their now infamous homemade pizzas fuelling the fire to ensure everyone sent it into the late afternoon.

Thursday:
What a scorcher! With record temperatures, Norman Jay and the Notting Hill Carnival bus parked in the Grillhofalm you would be hard pressed to find a better combo for an afternoon. But wait theres more as the Hotzone.tv brought over some of the World’s best riders who were out to prove why they get paid to chill in the snow instead of a getting a proper job. The cream of England, Jamie Nicholls was on fire with a switch frontside 1080 which earnt him best trick of the day and the overall Snowbombing Ride and Seek crown right in front of Peter König and Florian Heim. The Queen sends her respects. The beats continued long into the afternoon sending you all down with happy but redder faces than they arrived with.

Friday:

That’s it and that’s all with another unforgettable Ride and Seek contest coming to a close. The perils of the Hotzone slip and slide water gap were in fall force as superheroes, Gameboy megastars and some schnaps filled Snowbombers, crossed the sub zero temperatures, with some going home having had tasted the drink. With the snow dumping and the mist rolling in, it was up to the Dj’s Ra and Smash Hifi to turn up the heat on the assembled rabble of spectators climaxing an epic week of snowboarding craziness, see you all next year!

Have a looksee what happened down Sölden over the weekend. Prizes galore for snowboarders and skiers alike. And a spot of yodelling too, as you do.

Freestyle Action & the Art of Yodeling – Almdudler Freestyle Feast Vol. 8

An entire armada of freeskiers and snowboarders met at the Almdudler Snowpark Sölden last Saturday to celebrate the 8th edition of the legendary Almdudler Freestyle Feast. In addition to an extensive ‘Goodies 4 Trix’ session, BBQ and massive DJ sounds, we were also looking for the most talented Yodel Hero!

On Saturday, March 23rd, 2013, the Almdudler Snowpark Sölden called for the already 8th edition of the legendary Almdudler Freestyle Feast. Like the previous seven editions, it was all about spending an awesome freestyle shred session with friends at the biggest snowpark in the Ötztal. Be it freeskier or snowboarder, pro or beginner, everyone was welcome to participate.

In the morning hours, shredheads of all ages got together to start off the Almdudler Freestyle Feast with the ‘Goodies 4 Trix’ session. As the name already implies, tons of awesome goodies by Almdudler and Moreboards were up for grabs. The contestants had to announce the trick they were going to perform on the individual obstacles, stomp it and were then rewarded with great prizes! First on the agenda was a 6m downbox. Then the session moved on to the first jump of the medium line, where the riders really got cracking and pulled out some impressive double backflips and double frontflips. The experienced freeskiers and snowboarders took their role model function quite seriously and showed the rookies how to handle the 8m straightrail properly.

Since the motivated contestants hiked most of the obstacles to stomp as many trix as possible, they had to beef up properly at the end of the session. A hearty barbecue and fresh Almdudler made sure that the riders regained their strength! In the meantime, live DJ Captain Jorge and MC Börni put on a great show at the chill area!

Next Almdudler Yodel Hero

Once the batteries were recharged, we were once again looking for the „Next Almdudler Yodel Hero“, that is, the most talented Yodeler from the Ötztal. Benni Mösl and Goffi Gram accepted the challenge from Elias Giacomelli and battled hard to defend their champion’s title. In a breathtaking finale, the audience decided per clap ranking in favor of challenger Elias, who may now look forward to a year’s supply of Almdudler. Of course we couldn’t miss out on asking the victorious yodeler a few questions:

Hey Elias, how did you like the Almdudler Freestyle Feast, was it your first time here?

“No, I’ve been here last year as well. Since I broke my collarbone two weeks ago, I couldn’t participate at the Goodies 4 Trix session. But it was a great day nevertheless and especially the yodel contest was tons of fun!”

Are you going to finish the year’s supply of Almdudler all by yourself?

“Haha, no, I think that would be too much. Since my friends contributed to my victory by cheering that enthusiastically for me, I think I will share my prize with them and my family.”

Almdudler Picture Bash

All hobby photographers and models among you, who were on location at the Almdudler Freestyle Feast, also get the chance to win a year’s supply of Almdudler! Send us your best picture of the event – preferably one of you holding an Almdudler goodie or beverage, or posing in front of an Almdudler obstacle or Almdudler branding – to editors@qparks.com or upload them on SHRAPIQ! You’ve got until Friday, April 5th, 2013, to do so! All shots will then automatically take part in our grand Facebook Online Voting.

You want to relive the great atmosphere of the Almdudler Freestyle Feast? Then check out the clip and photo gallery we’ve put together just for you! See you at the next feast!

DC sent a crew of their top riders to Meribel Mottaret last week to shred the shit out of their Area 43 park. Which they dutifully did, and even bagged a few pow sprays while they were at it. We liked it almost as much as the girls in the bar that Lauri Heiskari, Mat Schaer, Piotr Janosz, and the rest were were showing off for. Check it out.

The World Rookie Finals have previously crowned a whole list of names that later went on to dominate the highest levels of snowboarding. So it would be worth remembering the names Jonas Bösinger and Katerina Vojackova, they’re going to start popping up all over the shop. Last week they took top honours in their age categories at the World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, where standards were ludicrously high. Just check the highlights reel – these kids are laying down runs that would have challenged at the X Games not all so long ago. And they’re not just hurling through the course, there’s style in there too. They’re 15 for flip sake. If rookies need doubles to get on the podium, it’s safe to say the future’s bright for slopestyle competition. Watch out for these guys at our Onboard Send Off Session very shortly.

Is there ever a bad time to ride Laax? By the look of these monthly edits, apparently no. Look out for tiny weeny riders sending it over not so teeny booters, and the questionable new swiss fashion of having your jacket only done up at the collar. This has us wondering exactly how irritating it must be if your jacket wraps itself over your head halfway through every trick. Anyways, here’s two and a half minutes to distract you from real life.

Riders: James Niederberger, Jah Harris, Joos Caviezel, Mättu Wattinger, Bastian Jaslin,Tobias Supertramp, Thomas Laich, Denis Leontyev. Mary Luggen, Stéphanie Kauert, Stefano Giudici, Marco Lazzaroni, Elio Fumagalli and Boris Bühler!
