The Air&Style reaches a landmark 20-year anniversary this year of throwing über-progressive stadium jump spectaculars. For the double decade this year’s event will be a two-dayer –from Friday Feb 1st to Saturday Feb 2nd 2013 – and the event organisers have been cooking up some proper sickness for you. In addition to the main hyper hucking event on Saturday evening, where those kids who can do every trick in the book will face off, Friday will see the burn Style Session in which some riders of Air&Styles past will attempt to reacquaint themselves with a big air booter but with a focus on pure style – guys like Gigi Rüf, Nicolas Müller and Terje Haakonson are in the pot for that, so it promises to be quite the sideshow. And we haven’t even mentioned the music and parties that’ll kick off after the shredding’s done.

Blue Tomato’s ‘Best Urban Shot’ returns for the third year running, offering up a creative photo and video competition for all snowboarders and photographers. With a purse of €3000 up for grabs along with heaps of other epic prizes, not to mention the chance to get your shot made into a poster that’ll be shipped out within Onboard next season, you’ll want to be involved in this…

Building on the undoubted success of last year’s Best Urban Shot, this year Blue Tomato are looking to step it up to the next level by going full-Euro. The Best Urban Shot Competition is a chance for all city shredders to get creative and run riot on the rails of their home towns. The only condition is that the shot must be taken in an urban environment, far from parks and mountains. A famous landmark in a European capital would be, for example, the perfect background for your photo or video.

All artwork sent in will be judged by a specialist Blue Tomato Jury with a total of 3,000 € in cash to give out for the most creative photos and videos.

The winners of the Best Snowboard Photo and Best Snowboard Video categories will each receive 750 € cash. Second and third places will get hyped on some sick product from Nitro Snowboarding, GoPro and of course, Blue Tomato!

On top of the great cash prizes, the winner of each category will receive something super special, the likes of which would make pro-riders across the world jealous: A huge serving of media coverage. The snowboarders will have a poster of their winning shot featured in our very own print mag! The last guy to have this was Halldor Helgason, so, you know, like no big deal…

This year, Dragon are letting you run wild with their brand new model, the NFX. Based on the ‘frameless’ technology of the APX, this offers up a cylindrical lens that’s easy as hell to interchange the less on and gives you epic peripheral vision with a comfy fit and a unique look. Luke Mitrani was feeling it, as he says: “The NFX felt really good on the mountain and the way you can change out lenses so quickly is perfect for me when I am riding and the conditions change.” Download the Illustrator or PDF files according to your preference and go wild.

Once you’ve got your goggle design dialed, email your entries to thecrew@onboardmag.com. Please include your name in the file name. If your submission is over a couple of megabytes please create a .pdf preview and send that. Make sure you include your full name and contact details in the mail you attach your design to, and title your entry Dragon Design Contest 2012/13.

When the contest closes, entries will be judged by Onboard and Dragon and whichever design stokes us out most will be notified as the winner and will receive 10 pairs of their self-designed goggles once they have been produced for the 2014 line.

For the first time, Burton are giving anyone the chance to create a Burton board graphic through a design contest run by ‘Blank You Very Much’. In case you haven’t seen it, check the skinny right here…

This is a killer opportunity for anyone to design a Burton snowboard graphic. Here are the basics on how the program works:

Burton’s friends at Blank You Very Much, a website devoted to crowd-sourced design, are tapping into their creative community of nearly twenty-thousand artists to submit graphic options that will be showcased in their BYVM gallery.

At the end of November, the community will vote and choose the top 20 designers. Burton are encouraging their dealers to sign up to the community so they can see the submissions along the way at www.blankyouverymuch.com.

After the top 20 designers are identified, each of their designs (2 from each) will then be exclusively voted on by selected Burton dealers to narrow the field to 10 top designs.

From there, these 10 boards will be built at Craig’s and brought out to the SIA show where Danny Davis and Mark Sollors will select the two finalists.
Winning graphics will then be used on Burton boards planned for the 2014 production season.

The World Snowboard Tour are ramping up for another season of hyper-progressive contest shredding, and to celebrate the new season of events have teamed up with Nitro Snowboards and renowned artist Mike Parillo to produce this limited edition steed. We have two to be won – get involved…

This 156 is based on Nitro’s popular T1.5, which is a “high end park board that suits every rider trying to progress and who one day might reach for the World Tour Trophy.” It’s basically the perfect kind of stick for anyone wanting to chuck freestyle moves anywhere on the mountain, and it’s topped off by artwork from Parillo that is intended to portray “the emotion that comes with winning the trophy.”
