After two days of competition in both Halfpipe and Slopestyle formats, the Swatch TTR THREE(3)STAR O2 World Rookie Fest came to a close with the Japanese rider Teddy Koo taking the top overall male rookie spot. Czech rider Dan Paulicek earned the top spot in the male grom category, with Sarka Pancochova, also from the Czech Republic, proving her presence as the leading female rookie rider by winning the female overall category.
Due to poor and unexpected conditions and seven days of warmer than normal temperatures, the competition on Friday moved to the resort of Klinovec and the format changed to a halfpipe competition. A single jump and a variety of jib obstacles were also put together for Saturday. Included in the program was a photo session around the city of Bozi Dar where the whole WRF crew attacked some handrails for a photo opportunity.
In the spirit of the TTR, the best riders from the THREE(3)STAR O2 World Rookie Fest got wild cards to bigger TTR events. The overall winner earned a ticket to the Swatch TTR FOUR(4)STAR Total Fight in Andorra, with another 10 riders earning tickets that send them straight into the finals at the Voelkl World Rookie Fest in Austria in April. Also in the TTR rankings, Sarka Pancochova (CZE), who placed first, is now TTR World No. 9, with Aimee Fuller (GBR) who finished second moving into the Top 90. Teddy Koo who won the male category has moved into the TTR Top 200.
It is in Austria for the Voelkl World Rookie Fest where the overall winner will take the title of World Rookie Champion, a ‘fresh meat’ profile on Method Magazine, a Ticket to the Nokia Air & Style Munich 2008 rookie challenge and a two-week trip to Canada with Pirate Movie Productions to be featured in their next film. For the first riders listed without a sponsor, international sponsorship from Protest and Voelkl will also be assigned.
Rookie teams from around the world are invited to join the upcoming Voelkl World Rookie Fest with their rookie team. A maximum of 10 riders are allowed to enter from each team: 3 male rookies, 3 female rookies, 2 male groms, 2 female groms, as well as the riders qualified into the final from their Livigno and Czech results.
