Talking TTR with Tour Champ Peetu Piiroinen

12:24PM Thu, 2nd December 2010

Watch Peetu talk about the TTR and his plans for this season’s contest, along with some of his greatest hits from last year’s Tour.

Peetu is a machine. Not only did he hit up all the major TTR contests and slayed it to take his second successive TTR World Tour crown, he also jumped through the Olympic hoops to nab himself a silver medal and even managed to bag himself the BGOS overall crown too. And when you watch him riding you can see why – the kid is so good and so consistent that it’s almost inconceivable that he won’t be stomping down the hammers no matter where or what he’s hitting.

The one time we saw him when things weren’t going too hot was at last season’s BEO: A wonky wall on the second hit of the pipe was bucking riders’ double corks, resulting in most re-evaluating their game plan after the first run. Not Peetu. He took another beating on his second run and when he took his third run we were thinking “He’s got to do something different there.” Nope, he launched his double cork even higher, stomped it and continued on to post the highest score of the day and take first place. “I know I have three chances and I only need to land one run so I just focussed on that,” was how he explained his full-bore approach.

Ahead of the first 6-Star TTR contest of the 2010/11 World Tour, the Air&Style in Beijing, we sat down with Peetu to get the chat on his plans for this season’s contests, who’s going to be a threat and how he prepares for the intensity of the coming months. Check it.
