Grandvalira, the largest ski area in the Pyrenees with 193 km of slopes, has already started the season and now releases the event schedule for the upcoming season…
20th January: GV Freestyle Series: Atomic Night Fever, ski and snowboard. Grandvalira – El Tarter
Even though it may seem impossible, the 3rd edition of the Atomic Night Fever promises to provide even more of a show than previous editions. This night-time event has been extremely successful as far as attendance and spectators are concerned, and we’re looking into a new formula where freestylers can let their imagination run wild. This is a night of music and freestyle organised by Grandvalira and Atomic. The El Tarter car park continues to be the location. The show consists of a night-time rail-slide comp for boarders and skiers with a DJ playing a live set. This event is the first big occasion of the season for the freestyle world where you’ll see the riders laying down the best tricks of the winter.
21st January: Salomon Series-Slope Style. Grandvalira – Grau Roig
This event will be the grand presentation to all riders of this new rail-park in Grandvalira – Grau Roig. The format will be Slope Style open to all categories (men, senior, junior, ski and snowboard, as well as women) and to all those who wish to enter. Once again, Salomon supports the participation of all the amateurs who want to showcase their style, providing the opportunity for new talent to be recognised. This will be the first of two events which the French brand will hold at Grandvalira. The opening of this rail-park represents the finishing stages of what was just a small rail-park project last season. It now has several lines, combining kickers and specific boxes such as a rainbow, a San Francisco, or a Grandvalira first; a wave shaped box.
24-27th January: GV Freestyle series: Yo Surfera – Burton Black Angels (women), snowboard. Grandvalira-El Tarter
At last an event for the ladies. The Yo surfera – Burton Strawberry is a 4-day party aimed at female riders who want to learn even more. The gathering will include photo sessions as well a Slope Style exhibition at the El Tarter Snowpark at the weekend. Girls are the stars and it’s all organised by Grandvalira in conjunction with Burton and Yo Surfera. Lastly, on Sunday the 27th there will be a competition where the girls will be able to demonstrate over an entire day what girl power’s about.
27th January: Vans Snowboard Academy Awards.
Grandvalira in its entirety, with its 193 Km of runs, will be the host for this event which will bring together riders of a high calibre and TV and professional movie cameras to film a video during 24 hours from any point in the resort. A very interesting format which opens the doors for absolute audiovisual creativity mixed with a sport of great aestheticism. This is an invitational event open only to snowboarders and camerapersons of a high professional level invited by the organisation. Once registration has been completed, the event will run for 24 hours before the judges adjudicate the award to the film deserving the honour of best motion picture.
10th February: GV Freestyle Series: Audi Kaotik Affaire, ski and snowboard. Grandvalira – El Tarter
The extremely popular Audi Spine Expression of the last few seasons gathers momentum and renewed ideas with the involvement of Northwave and Drake as sponsors, as well as the always present Audi. All three are presenting a new formula, the Audi Kaotik Affaire. If in previous editions the chosen module for the event was the Spine in the very centre of the El Tarter Snowpark, it is now evolving towards a wider range of modules with the competition format now a Slope Style following the line of the park. The day will unfold with the usual festive atmosphere commonplace at Grandvalira freestyle competitions, with music and BBQ for all those present.
18th February: Granvalira Freestyle Series: Eastpak Style Warriors, ski and snowboard.
A competition which will take place at the El Tarter Snowpark with the aim of reviving the original freestyle spirit. The scoring for classification will not be made on the difficulty of tricks but on the best style. A return to big stalled moves, looking for maximum air time and avoiding the usual scoring methods normally applied.
9th and 10th March: Final of the Saab Salomon Crossmax Series Int., skiercross. Grandvalira – Pas de la Casa
The pioneering world skiercross circuit, the Saab Salomon Crossmax Series, will hold its final at Grandvalira – Pas de la Casa: This will be the 3rd edition of the international circuit hosted by Pas de la Casa. This gathering will bring together the best specialists in the world of this alpine skiing show-discipline. It’s a discipline directly inspired by motocross with six skiers racing along an extremely difficult track full of jumps. Alpine skiing technique and freestyle creativity are combined, offering excitement, action and speed on a nightmare course. Last season, the renowned German shaper Oliver Deby, along with resort and Salomon technicians, already designed one of the most difficult courses ever. He announced that for this March he’s got more tricks up his sleeve. This event will be the last on the international circuit’s calendar which will previously have passed through prestigious resorts such as Solden (Austria) over the 23rd-25th November 2006 and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) from 18th to the 19th January 2007.
18th March: GV Freestyle Series, ski and snowboard. Grandvalira – Pas de la Casa
An open event for skiers and boarders who dare to make their tricks public in a comp. This event already took place last year with 63 brave riders who had fun in a competition with different modules consisting of rails and jumps. In fact, the Salomon Rail Jump Sessions set very high standards in its first edition. The event, which had two rounds for each of the categories, saw strong competition and a lot of style. The high level of the amateurs gave the judges a hard job of finding the deserving winners of the event.
29th March – 1st April: Grandvalira Total Fight Masters of freestyle, ski and snowboard. Grandvalira – El Tarter
3rd edition of the most important competition in the Pyrenees. After last year’s success, once again at Grandvalira the Total Fight will bring together the best international riders in a 4-day event which will pack the El Tarter Snowpark with the best freestyle. The forecast for this year is to surpass the previous edition with more riders and a better show. That’s why Freestyle Grandvalira will be working hard to obtain a new special design for the Snowpark at the level and for the category of the event. The only event in the Pyrenees with the TTR (Ticket to Ride) stamp is accessible to all, as the Grandvalira Total Fight is not only a freestyle event, but also includes other disciplines and other very attractive cultural activities. The night will be themed with concerts, live DJ sets, photography exhibitions and video contests. Yet another year, the best daytime and night-time leisure is guaranteed.
