Onboard 109 – On Sale Now!
October 29th, 2009 - Featured Content, Magazine, News, World News - 3 Comments »
Issue 109 hits newsstands today and it’s stuffed to the gills with banging photos and inspiring words that’ll stoke out jibbers, powder hounds, contest freaks and video dawgs in equal measure.
On the cover you’ll find Andreas Wiig eyeballing at you mid Folgefonna handplant courtesy of the keen eye of Frode Sandbech, and the Norseman has ties to the Standard Films feature within – his is the strong second part. Here’s a teaser of some of the main features you’ll be pumped on…
Germany – Beyond the Wall
It’s now 20 years since that historic day when the Berlin wall fell and anticipating this anniversary Onboard headed to the old East Germany with riders Fips and Tobi Strauss, Torgeir Berre, Sebi Müller and Jens Kretschmer to ride rails and resorts in Dresden and beyond, bombdrop the ruins of the Berlin wall, and get passports stamped at Checkpoint Charlie.
Lucas Magoon Profile
Our eyes have been popping out of their sockets over the last few years whenever we’ve seen Lucas Magoon’s rail riding. The kid is so tech he should be on sale in Tokyo’s Akihabra district, and has a killer unique style to boot. We’d planned to do something with him but then we heard he’d suffered a serious head trauma while skateboarding. Things looked sketchy at first but thankfully he has made a steady recovery. Snowboarder mag’s Pat Bridges offers an insight into the tall tee-wearing man with the help of Gooner’s buddies.
Blowing Up – Sarka Pancochova
This diminutive Czech girl has been turning heads and is on the verge of tearing women’s riding a new exit hole with her burly approach, deep sack of tricks and multi-terrain versatility. We find out what she’s all about.
Mapping the Myth of Val Cenis
More by accident than design, senior snapper Matt Georges found himself with a crew of Frenchies in a backwater valley in the alps. Expecting grizzly rednecks and challenging conditions to shoot in, the opposite was the case and the friendly locals ensured they found the best spots, rode the finest pow and lived the god life. Matt will be going back, you can bet on it…
Factor Films ‘They Came From’ Gallery.
It was planned that this issue would come with Factor Film’s latest banger, They Came From but sadly technical problems with the DVD production have meant it will now come free with issue 110 instead. Apologies. To whet your appetite, though, we have a gallery of shots from the movie to give you the horn.
Plus we have a look back on the history of Standard Films to coincide with their new movie, Black Winter, a Day in the Life with Antti Autti at the Billabong Air&Style, Jocki Köffler’s Rig, and a Trickology on Pole Jams amongst other goodness to get you the hype on. Go bag your copy now, or better still SUBSCRIBE and never miss an issue…
