We just posted a little something about the postponed Air & Style Moscow when news reached us about yet another Swatch TTR event in the East: The 4Star BGV Fest from February 5th to 7th 2010 in the Metallurt-Magnitogorsk Ski Resort (Bannoe Lake) will bring together the snowboard scene of the land of Tolstoy, Chekhov and Pushkin. The contest is the final of the 2009/10 BGV Tour.
Fans in Russia can look forward to a huge set up consisting of two jib sections and a big air and a showdown of talent from a strong international riders field. You think Russia equals drinking vodka in ludicrous quantities? There will be a “winter party” that is supposed to be one of the biggest in the country – so go figure. Invited and wild card riders from all over Europe and Russia will compete for a total prize purse of 600.000 Rubles ($20 000) and 500 Swatch TTR ranking points over three days. The Russian Open Championship on 5th February 2010 will decide which four wild card riders will get a ticket to ride at the BGV Fest.
Among the riders taking part are Otto Veijola (FIN) and Sergey Lapushkin (RUS), last year’s winner Teo Konttinen (FIN) and “Ästhetiker” Crew member Chris “CK” Kröll (AUT), who currently sits in World No. 46. As the winner of 2Star BGV Fest Siberia, Chris Sörman (SWE), is also up on the BGV riders list. Sörman, who has a fashion sense like no other and has recently been awarded Sweden’s Rider of the Year at the Transition Winter Awards, came second at the 4Star BGV Fest in 2009 and is one of the top candidates for this year’s title. Many riders will make their first appearance at the BGV Fest this season including Petja Piiroinen (FIN), the younger brother of current Swatch TTR World Tour leader Peetu Piiroinen.
