K2 KRANKED Slalom 2013 – Photos, Videos, and Results

From 5th to 7th of April K2 Snowboarding hosted their inaugural Kranked Slalom in Kleinwalsertal/Austria. Friends, riders, families, and select media all showed up to celebrate K2′s 25th anniversary of their foray into snowboarding. The weather conditions couldn’t have been much worse (fog, icy course, rain on Sunday). However, 38 teams (of three riders each) showed up to battle it out on a course full of banks, bonks, jibs and jumps. And while banked slaloms seem to be all the rage these days, this one had its very own twist on fun and creativity. The teams of three had to ride it at the same time, making it a good mix of slopestyle, slalom, and boardercross madness. Rumor has it that some teams even used their creativity to find some shortcuts in the opaque fog…

Team “Original Zillertal”, consisting of Alex Walch, Georg Huber and Tom Trammitz, could cope best with these conditions, scored first place and are now happy winners of a Japan Powder Adventure with elooa Camps. Second became the local team “Handsome” with Clemens Paul, Florian Geiger and Roland Matt, followed by the “Gnarlberg Steinbocks” around Chris Schnabel, Simon Holzknecht and Irian van Helfteren.

After the prizegiving the punk cover band “Desert Haze” played good old snowboard tunes while people gave the mini ramp in front of the Auenhütte (an awesome place run by very snowboard-minded people) a good beating. Later, all the action moved into a big party tent, where Austrian hip-hop act Demograffics, the Baywatch Soundsystem and free K2 drink vouchers kept the crowd crazy until the wee hours of Sunday. About 50 people fell asleep in their camp beds in the sleeping tent, which K2 Snowboarding splashed out on its birthday bash.

Now what did K2 have to say about this? “All in all the K2 KRANKED Slalom was a worthy gathering, where old dogs and young guns, pro riders and soul shredders came together to have a good time. They all drove home with a big smile in the face and are already looking forward to the next K2 KRANKED!”

Free Download of Argon Films’ EUPHORIA

Last weekend the Euphoria world premiere went down during the Hotzone.tv Opening in Zillertal. On Friday and Saturday the movie was presented to the industry and the public in two different locations. The Argon guys were happy with the outcome and to finish their project after an intense time! The weekend started on Friday evening with an awesome dinner in the Bergfriedalm. Argon Riders like Herby Thaler, Steve Gruber, Flo Heim, Tom Tramnitz, Alex Walch, Chris Cab and parts of the production crew met up with the industry, partners and pros to warm up before the world premiere of EUPHORIA! Afterwards, the town hall of Lanersbach was the place of choice and the audience was served by the Monster Pinups, who offered free drinks before Chris Cab and Muck Müller introduced the movie. The crowd was stoked on the movie and continued the party at the downtown Tenne until sunrise.

Saturday was all about shredding on the glacier and enjoying the atmosphere and sidevents of the Hotzone.tv Glacier Opening. At night the EUPHORIA public movie premiere took place at the uptown Hohenhaus Tenne during the Rhythm Opening night.

All together it was a really cool weekend with a lot of positive feedback for the crew, the riders and all people involved.

Argon Films’ Euphoria Teaser

Argon Films just published the teaser to their new project EUPHORIA. The world premiere will take place on the 1 October 2011 in the Zillertal valley during the Hotzone.tv opening. More premieres will go down in Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna – dates to be announced! And the movie will be available as free download on 3 October 2011 on www.euphoria4free.com!

The beginning for the „EUPHORIA“ project marked a cozy gathering in the Zillertal early last winter. A bunch of film enthusiasts met to discuss how to realize a well produced movie, which should motivate the people to go snowboarding even without showing 40-stairs-rails or triple corks. Additionally the movie should be based on sessions rather than on classic rider-parts and it should cover all aspects of snowboarding.

The right mix of different riding styles, characters and ages is crucial for a project like this and these guys are the chosen ones who were predestined to show their action all around the globe! No movie without a story! This meant one week of shooting in Tirol and Salzburg, with almost all riders, many random actors and a production crew of up to nine persons. As you read this, the postproduction is still working hard and EUPHORIA is almost done. Expect some gorgeous girls, a lot of tattoos, a funny story without a real meaning and of course heavy snowboarding!

2011 Rhythm Positivity Sunrise Session

Every year in June the Positivity Crew hikes up to the Siedel Glacier to set up a Snowboard Summer Camp for 2 weeks during summer.
As a main sponsor of “Positivity Camp 2011”, “RHYTHM” joined the crew for a weekend.
Sunday morning the RHYTHM Team woke up shortly before sunrise to start “The RHYTHM Positivity Sunrise Session”
A perfect positioned kicker (20m table) shooting the rider towards a beautiful sunrise behind a mountain panorama.

Vans Penken Park Checkout

Not that we wouldn’t throw enough videos from the Vans Penken Park at Mayrhofen at you (examples? Check here, here, and here!), but this park is just too good.

However, it shouldn’t be too hard to pull off a park like this. All you need is a big budget, a devoted crew, a supportive resort, a great sponsor, … oh wait, maybe it is quite difficult. Well, in this park checkout, Alex Walch introduces you to the different park lines of the Penken Park. Good stuff.

The K2 Pop This! highest ollie tournament is currently touring most European mountain regions (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Benelux, Czech, France, Spain, Finland, UK, and Sweden that is). More than 50 tour stops offer you the perfect opportunity to show how good you are at popping an ollie. So far more than 150 riders took part in throwing themselves over the ever-increasing bar, and German Sebi Müller is currently the record holder with an astonishing 100 centimeters (that’s almost 40 inch, yanks!).

The K2 Pop This! Tour is a snowboard contest without snow. It takes place in the city, in the parking lot, in front of snowboard shops, in night clubs, at events, no matter how warm or cold it is. The K2 Pop This! vans literally pop up all over Europe this winter. They bring a setup consisting of a drop-in ramp, mats, a measuring device, several snowboard setups and lots of prizes.
