Anne-Flore Marxer just got hooked up with APO and will be riding their MTD board from now on. X Games medallist Spencer O’Brien is also in their team and they’ve got a whacking great 4 girls boards in next year’s line. AFM has fingers in just about every snowboarding pie from comps to big booters in the soft stuff, and whenever she pops up on the youtube she’s having a laugh. She’s downright rad at sliding down mountains, and not even ‘for a girl’ rad, just plain rad. Plus, she has the industry standard 3 letter name, she’ll go far for sure. Big up yourself AFM.

Here’s what APO and AFM herself said about the move:

‘‘I’m glad to announce that I just signed with Apo! I most definitely LOVE my new board! Super playful, light under the feet, mad pop, double rocker and super easy in pow but still awesome for freestyle moves! It’s been a while since I had such a fun toy under my feet! The team is full of really fun shredders who I have tons of respect for and love to hang with! The Apo office is right around the corner and I LOVED our very first meeting which was supposed to happen in the office and ended up as a big half day of pow shred before everyone went back to work! 40cm and blue sky, what else for a great start!?!

Stoked to add APO to my sponsors who let me live my passion to the fullest and support me, APO, Swatch, Sosh, Oakley, Blue Tomato, 32, Etnies, Recco, TSG protections, Buff and Keep a Breast. Thank you all!

Anne-Flore Marxer is ever present in the snowboard scene, she has over 20 magazine covers to her name, was the Freeride World Champion in 2011, is an ambassador of World Snowboard Day and turns her hand to TV presenting at the X games and other events, not to forget her recent epic movie part in Standard films, 2112.

Anne-Flore live life to its fullest, she will be the first to hit the biggest kickers, claims podiums at the biggest free-ride competitions in the world and can slay rails with steeze… After all this she will still be the first to the dance floor and the last to go home. Passionate and open, Anne-Flore knows no moderation. She is constantly pushing the standards of female snowboarding. Welcome to the team Anne-Flore.

It’s been a long while coming, but finally Standard Films have dropped the teaser for their highly anticipated new movie, 2112. Featuring Ethan Morgan, Nils Arvidsson, Xavier De Le Rue, Mathieu Crepel and a host more hammersmiths, it is very metal, and very heavy.

We swore at Nils Arvidsson’s triple, the pesky RC helicopter buzzing Ethan Morgan, Xavier De Le Rue’s ice ride and Fredi Kalbermatten’s monsterous overshoot. What did you swear at?

From the ashes of our uncertain times rises the 21st movie in the legendary TB series: 2112. In this all-HD epic, Standard Films showcases snowboarding’s future with new riders, new spots, and next gen thinking. This full spectrum action film will force you to readjust your parameters for speed and spin as it carries you from the immense mountains of Alaska to the frozen streets of Scandinavia. Turn up the volume. Get fired up. And shred your future away…

Starring: Mathieu Crepel, Frederik Kalbermatten, Gulli Gudmundsson, Ethan Morgan, Xavier De Le Rue, Tim Humphreys, Nils Ardvisson, Kimmy Fasani, Victor De Le Rue, Chas Guldemond, Anne-Flore Marxer

Filmed on location: Iceland, Norway, Austria, Sweden, Washington, Red Mountain BC, Whistler BC, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Mammoth Mountain, Haines, Alaska

Sponsors: Burton, GNU, Oakley, Nike, Quiksilver, Billabong, The North Face, Bataleon, Flow, Contour, Under Armour, Rip Curl, Swatch, Squaw Valley, Rossignol, Buff, Valhalla Design, Alpine Meadows, Snowboarder Magazine, Onboard Magazine, Transworld Japan Magazine

Today’s spotlight on 2011/2012 products, as compiled at ISPO by our ever-productive intern Joonas Raijonen, features a selection of goodies from the Aussie boardsports giant, Billabong.

Billabong, founded in 1973 by Gordon and Rena Merchant in the wave haven of Australia, has since spread its arms wide to embrace every aspect of boardsportery. Just out of interest, do you know what a Billabong is, apart from the purveyors of all things snowboarding, surf and skate? Well, its a mini lake marooned when a river changes its course – there you go.

So back to the point: Billabong have a budding team of snow rippers, both boys and girls, including TTR winner Jamie Anderson, multiple X Games winner Jenny Jones and Anne-Flore Marxer, whose pro jacket is featured in this short review. The men’s team also has a fair few heroes, as well as the likes of Autti, Lago, the flying Jap Fuse and Austria’s Wolle Nyvelt, who has been a mainstay of Absinthe films and is a pioneer in the field of European Noboarding. If you like to rip outback then check out his gear here.

Anne-Flore’s jacket is up first, and apart from taking care of everything a good shred jacket should it’s also daubed in a pretty rad print that’ll make it stand out. Wolle’s jacket it geared towards protecting you when you’re headed way out back to do the kind of riding Wolle is famed for, while the Avid Series is for snowboarders wanting the absolute pinnacle of performance from their outerwear in a bold colorway. Peep this.

The Nissan Freeride de Chamonix Mont-Blanc 2011 by Swatch went off in Courmayeur on the Italian side of Mont Blanc on Sunday, 23 January 2011. A strong field of freeriders were surprised by the quality of both the snow and the number of features. As a result, the north face of Mont Fortin produced high-quality runs that were fast and fluid with multiple airs. The world’s best freeriders kicked off the official Freeride World Tour in Courmayeur during a day that boasted an astonishingly high level of action. Although it was difficult to know what the conditions were going to be until they dropped in, riders reported they were really happy to find a face this good despite poor conditions throughout the Alps. The 300-meter face was crowned by three different starting options and competitors described it as having loads of playful line choices, any of which could have produced the winning run. In the end the day the competition was dominated by the French who took all three podium spots in men’s snowboarding.

In the Men’s Snowboard division, Freeride World Champion Xavier de Le Rue (FRA) threw down what many thought to be the best run of the day with a fast clean double drop to straight line at the end of his run. With this win, de Le Rue continues his dominance of the Freeride World Tour by extending his streak of consecutive FWT wins to four.

At the women’s comp, it was the wild cards who stepped to the plate when freestyler Anne-Flore Marxer (FRA/SUI), competing in her rookie season of the tour, proved that women snowboarders can rip world class faces with aggressive grace. Second place was also taken by wild card Ursula Wohlschlager (AUT) which puts a new face on the women’s snowboarding division.

Published in Onboard Magazine Issue 119, January 2011

It basically all started two or three years back when I heard they were going to stop producing Polaroid films… At that time I was not really familiar with the process and decided to jump straight in this “world” before everything was gone for real. I started doing some research about how to use fi lms, play with the chemical process, use different cameras and polaroid film formats and so on, and without expecting much i found a crazy community with a serious motivation and goal to keep Polaroid fi lm alive. After shooting a lot with the 600 film family (the classic ones with the white frame all around) I have moved quickly to 100 fi lms (rectangular and a bit bigger) and discovered many, many ways and techniques to play around with images. Here are a small collection of those from the past two winters…
