Rowan Coultas, 15 year old uber shredder from the UK has joined the ranks of APO's european team.

Rowan Coultas, 15 year old uber shredder from the UK has joined the ranks of APO’s european team. Riding with the likes of Tyler Chorlton and Gerome ‘Coin-Coin’ Mathieu will push Rowans already bulging quiver of skills on a sideways plank to mind boggling heights. Rowans family relocated to Maryhofen, Austria 2 years ago and Rowan has been turning heads on the european scene ever since.

We caught up with Rowan to see what he thought of the move, “I am stoked to part of the APO team I have already met a few of the guys and they are all really cool. I think the boards are sick, really good pop and flex and they feel so good to ride on any terrain. The APO company is a cool company and I can’t wait to work with them more in the next few seasons!!!”

Sick things to come this winter with plans to get out shredding as much as possible, competition dates booked in the diary and training with the GB team in the US and Austria. He’s a busy boy, but you can also watch his silky skills as he shreds at the Freeze Festival at Battersea, UK this month.

Peep Tyler’s full part from the APO movie. This is proper solid, the front 5 stale causing an involuntary twitch in our undergarments. Sorry ’bout that…

Tyler Chorlton spent a fair part of last season holed up in Montana filming with the Pirates. Some of the bangers were in Bottom Line but a whole heap of others have been included in APO Snowboards’ team movie, Don’t Miss The Train. This is Tyler’s full part from that bad boy. Oh that was bloody good init. Pit pit.

Following hot on the heels of that is another edit, this time of how Coin Coin got on at the recent Winter X Games Europe in Tignes, France. Check it out!

1. Forum

Youngblood

148, 152, 154, 155W, 156, 157W

This softer-fl exing true twin is built for stepping your game up. The Youngblood team are the kids pushing the limits and the board refl ects this, being perfect for spinning on and off rails, cranking that spin round an extra 180 or stomping your fi rst dub. Lightweight, responsive, and with graphics that say ‘Yo, check me out!’ these are bang on for freestylers wanting to up the ante. Also available with Chillydog Rocker.

2. Skullcandy

Icon 2

Skullcandy’s colorful team favorite – Halldor Helgason is particularly down with these ear cans – just got even better. The Icon 2 headphones are super durable, ultra light and the 30mm speakers ensure that they can easily go to 11. Basically these are all you need from a good pair of headphones for shredding the hill or for every-day use, and now you can even control your iThingy with the on-cord microphone and control switch.

€34.95

3. Transform

The Figurines

Transform have been holding the glove game down for a couple of seasons, bringing their unique euro fl avour to the hand shoe game, and if you’re looking for a tasty bit of spring session fi nger fun then check these bad boys. The Figurines have an über low-profile shape, stretch fingers and a fully loved-up grippy silicon palm and are just what you need for slushy funtimes.

4. APO

Seed

154, 157, 160, 158W, 161W, 164W, 166W

As we all know, we could tell what great tech a board has an you’ll still not buy it if you weren’t feeling the graphic. But what could be better than a board that looks like a bottle of Jägermeister? That’s right, not much. If you’re a beginner or intermediate rider wanting to push your riding all over the hill it’ll ride as good as it looks: it’s a directional twin with rocker with a forgiving flex but enough in the tank to step it up when you want to. And at 300 bucks the price is killer.

5. Electric

EG2.5

The little brother of the awesome EG2, the 2.5 packs the same goodness into a more compact package for those with smaller faces. If you’re looking for maximum fi eld of vision and epic comfort, then look no further. Less frames and more goldfi sh bowl-like spherical lens give you awesomem peripheral vision and offer 100% UV protection. The triple-density foam also makes them super comfy to wear and they fi t with a helmet easily too. As they say: these are your widescreen HDTV for the mountains.

6. Protest

Hopton

Mobility is a key feature in snowboard clothing. That’s why using flexible soft shell fabric, as Protest have done with the Hopton, is a great idea. You get the good looks, you get the waterproofness (8K) but you also get better breathability and a better range of motion. So your on-hill dance moves will be like Travolta. Lycra wrist gaiters, pow skirt, fixed hood and pit vents make sure your body can break dance too.

€149.95

7. Horsefeathers

Pictor

Top-of-the-line tech from the Horsefeathers crew – jackets don’t come much more complete than the Pictor. This lightweight shell has a 20/20K waterproof/breathability rating and, of course, has fully taped seams. As you’d expect there are pit vents and, to keep you Fonzy cool, a back vent
to, and then there is also all the pockets, zip-out pow skirt, Lycra cuffs and other dope features that are par for the course. We’re backing the waspish colourway too.

8. SP

Brotherhood

One of the quickest bindings to get in and out of thanks to the fold-down highback ‘Fastec’ system, you’ll be spending time lapping not strapping with the Brotherhood. The aerospace aluminium ‘sLab’ baseplate is super light and gives electric response with some cushioning built in to take
the sting out of landings while the new anatomical ankle straps are more comfortable than ever.

9. eleven

Bred

This bit of outerwear was born and bred in Switzerland but is good to go no matter where you strap in. The 15/10K shell boasts fully-taped seams and is characterised by subtle styling, a good selection of pockets, the SPS ventilation (for optimum airfl ow), and the ability to be zipped together with Eleven pants for perfect sealing. Eugenics may be frowned upon these days but for outerwear it’s all good – thankfully, as this is most certainly a pure breed.

Peep yourself a preview of some of APO Snowboards’ key models for the 2011/2012 winter season in this video presented by APO head honcho Regis Rolland.

Regis Rolland was one of the first snowboarders in Europe (if you haven’t seen the Apocalypse Snow movies then you should try to hunt a copy down to see Regis in his pomp, out-running avalanches and, improbably, 80s ski aliens in equal measure.) He’s had his hand in several of Europe’s foremost snowboard brands – Apocalypse, A. Snowboards and now APO – and you could legitimately argue that what this guy doesn’t know about making snowboards doesn’t merit knowing.

Arguments aside, Regis knows his stuff and is therefore the best person to talk through some of APO’s highlight product for next season. First up is the freestyle-orientated MTD that’s aimed at anyone who likes to send it, with a dual rocker for easy-riding fun and carbon torsion beams for solid edge hold and heaps of pop. Next is Tyler Chorlton‘s first ever pro model, the TC, which Tyler himself designed the shape for and features the combined W Rocker. Then there’s the pow-loving Spray, their new model for the deep days featuring a huge nose, narrow tail and a soft flex. To wrap it up, Regis raps on APO’s dual entry system binding, the Expresso, which allows you to fold the highback down for easy entry or use ‘em as regular bindings on steeps.

So check out what he has to say about these new bits of shred gear from the APO stable.

Gérome ‘Coin Coin’ Mathieu is arguably one of France’s finest snowboarders. The avid snowboard enthusiast will know his skills from the latest Pirates flick Hooked. But even if not no worries: This online video part features lots of Pirates footage as well as his tricks from the Nike 6.0 D-Pad session and other material that’s well worth seeing.

If you’re still reading on (and seriously, we wouldn’t know why) let us tell you that Coin Coin won the 4-Star TTR comp Nissan Stomp-It in Modena earlier this season, owns an FMX bike, and – apart from Nike 6.0 and Apo – is sponsored by PO, Burn, Pull’in, Dragon, Deeluxe, Shark Biscuit, Level, and Ho5.

Now go and enjoy Gérome Mathieu’s 2010 Online Video Part!

APO Snowboards shout ‘Droppin!’ on their new series of webisodes set to follow the team and their adventures through the winter. First up Tyler Chorlton, the new kid on the APO block, invites Valerian Ducourtil and Gerome ‘Coin Coin’ Mathieu to his Andorran hometown to shralp the pow and hits. We spied Onboard senior Matt Georges in there cleaning up at poker too, so look out for shots from the trip in the mag next year. Check it…
