North Vancouverian, Seymour Kids and Party Snake member Brendan Keenan dropped his full part from 2012. It is full of good backcountry riding and even some urban bangers, and we deemed this a perfect additon to the other 1.5 million videos we have posted to our site.

Some of you out there will have seen the scoop when we posted our ISPO reports back in February, others will have read all about it in our Product Guide, but for those who still remain in the dark allow us to illuminate you. This season, Bataleon are also producing outerwear and it is looking grand.

Applying the same ethos they have with snowboard making to outerwear, Bataleon looked at technical solutions to material problems. “We took three things that we didn’t like about snowboard jackets and fixed them,” says Bataleon’s Ian Thrashmore. “Tweaking the hood and collar, articulation and zips in the process. Technicality was always going to be central.”

Every jacket and pant will do the business whatever the weather thanks to 10K waterproofness/breathability, and they’re offering two compete outfits for year 1, each with different tailoring: one is tailored in a generally fitted style and the other features in a more relaxed cut but you can, of course, mix and match between them to get your personal style dialled.

We hooked up with Bataleon and Switchback slasher Ben Rice, filmed him getting his stunt on and had him walk us through his kit. Check it out!

And just as we were about to press the magic ‘Publish’ button, we had word from our man Thrashmore at Bataleon informing us that the all-singing, all-dancing new Bataleon website is now up and running. As for Ben, well, he’s certainly got the vampire jib steeze on lock, likes blood, and can operate a snowboard rather well indeed.

We’re not gonna lie: there’s certainly more awe-inspiring snowboard related videos on this website. However, anyone who has the horn for new gear will find this clip right up their alley (and yesterday’s 2012/13 Snowboard Sneak Peek video too for that matter). If you’re after a more nuts and bolts breakdown of what the boards are all about, swing back next week as ISPO is on and we’ll be getting the reps to break their vow of silence and break the new kit down. In the meantime, check what some boards from the likes of Lobster, Gnu, Nitro, Jones, YES, CAPiTA and more will look like…

Sure, you won’t be able to get your hands on this binding project from the dudes at Bataleon Snowboards until next season (12/13), but what the hell… the concept is interesting. Plus the Helgasons are already onboard and as sure as 1 + 1 = 2, the internet demands anything related to these two must be posted with immediate effect or the whole thing will come crashing down.

We  received word from our contact at Bataleon HQ that they would be dropping bindings that would “forever change the way we look at snowboard bindings.” It was pretty cryptic to be honest, with stuff like “We aim to create a more flexible buying and riding experience for the consumers instead having to deal with a set of specs/features that a Brand decides,” and “allows them to purchase and ride a binding that is 100% customized for them,” so we reached out to find more. We pulled no punches with our CONFIRM or DENY email:

- From the blurb and the brand name, it sounds like you can select the type/stiffness of highback you get when you buy, and even easily swap between for different styles of riding.

- Halldor and Eiki will ride them

- they will be engineered to work perfectly with TBT

- The baseplates will be made from the distilled blood of a thousand young virgins

Though we received no direct reply, we did receive this PR that shows our assumptions were (mostly) right. Though they missed a trick with the virgin blood baseplates if you ask us… Here’s their chat:

If you don’t know what Bataleon are all about, let us enlighten you… Many moons ago (1997 to be precise), back when snowboards were all bent the same way and a banana was just something you ate, some Norwegian mad scientist dude wondered why boards’ bases were all flat. He figured a snowboard with a shaped base would work way better and thus Triple Base Technology was born.

All Bataleon boards feature TBT in to differing degrees, which works with their regular camber to add forgiving fun and ease of turning with mad pop and response. This year the brand is all about all-new shapes, with their jib models especially noticeable for their super square shaped noses, that remind us of the Hosoi Hammerhead skate deck from way back when. You’ll see this on the Disaster, Bataleon’s brand new jib model, which features a soft flex with extra wide TBT, and also to a lesser extent on another new women’s model, the Feelbetter.
