We figured it’d been at least 2 days since you’d heard anything about The Art of Flight, so happily we can report that there is an online game movie tie-in type thing, just like the Hollywood movies have. The fact that has videogame music straight from the 1980s makes it even more awesome.

If you can’t be arsed doing any work this morning and fancy fingerbashing a virtual Travis Rice to tune that sound like they’ve been taken from Streets of Rage (ask your dad), then this will be right up your alley, me old china.

Navigation for “The Art of FLIGHT” game runs off the keyboard’s arrows and space keys, which are used in conjunction to control the character. Points are earned by jumping higher and landing spectacular trick combinations. Held at the iconic Beacon Theatre it welcomed the film’s entire cast and crew including Travis Rice, John Jackson, Pat Moore, Mark Landvik, Nicolas Müller, Mark McMorris, Eero Niemela, Scotty Lago, Jake Blauvelt, Jeremy Jones, DCP, celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, Mike Diamond from the Beastie Boys and Owen Wilson, as well as the world’s best surfers, plus thousands of enthusiastic fans.

You can buy The Art of Flight from iTunes, and after watching it we’d say you should unless you like rails, hate powder, hate slow-mo more, and detest seeing the most insane booters you’ve seen get owned. Maybe not your pre-shred amper, but interesting, awesomely filmed and rammed full of heavy, heavy, HEAVY snowboarding.

Oh yes you read right: the probably most anticipated snowboard movie of all times had it’s world premiere in New York yesterday and since today the full movie is available for download in the itunes store!

We have never waited for a movie with more excitement (not even That’s It That’s All since we had no idea what to expect yet), watched the trailers more often than these and sucked in every tiny piece of info that we could, than we did the last two years for The Art of Flight. So we’re delighted to announce that, drumrolls, the movie is now available for download for only 7.99 euros (HD version 9.99 euros)!

After 2 long years of waiting, wondering about rumours and watching teasers, it’s finally here: the dates of the premier of Travis Rice and Brain Farm’s long expected new movie The Art of Flight!

After the world premiere in New York on September 7th, the movie tour train takes off to roam all of the US, Canada and the Pacific area, before it finally reaches the realms of Europa on November 8th in Munich, Germany. They crew will then set forth on to Austria, Italy and beyond, until the madness ends in Moscow, Russia.

The Art of Flight (AKA the most eagerly awaited snowboard film of, like, ever) is Travis Rice and Curt Morgan‘s follow-up to their rulebook re-writing movie from a couple seasons back, That’s It, That’s All.

And following their TITA teasing strategy, after giving us a couple months to scrape our jaws off the floor following the release of The Art of Flight’s first teaser they’ve now dropped the ‘Metal’ teaser to blow our minds once more.

There’s no dramatic scoring to this bad boy; just good old fashioned speed metal serving as the audio backdrop to the collage of scenic shots, heli shots, FRICKING HUGE DOUBLECORK SHOTS, slow-mo shots, shots of dang good shredding, shots of a bear and many shots of avalanches.

There is no doubt in our minds that this film will be nothing short of splendiferously frickin’ awesome. Roll on September 7.

So, as you know, Travis, Curt and the Brain Farm guys are 3/4 of their way through shooting their follow up to That’s It, That’s All (check The Art of Flight teaser – not too shabby) and on their travels they stopped off in Aspen to hit up an über wedge, some sick-looking snow tits and some fun hits with erstwhile companion Mark Landvik, the Frends boys – Luke & Jack Mitrani, Danny Davis, Scotty Lago – plus Mark McMorris, Eric Willett and Seb Toutant. Dream Team? Better believe it.

The teaser for Travis Rice & Co’s new project, Brain Farm Cinema’s The Art of Flight, is out. HOLY SHIT!

We spoke with the director of The Art of Flight, Curt Morgan, for a preview piece in the last print mag of the season. It was one of the most enlightening chats we’ve had in a long while as he laid bare the direction the new film would take, the pressure of following up That’s It, That’s All, and a trip to Patagonia that he called “the most incredible experience of my life.” But, seeing as they just dropped the teaser and people’s tongues will be wagging, we’ll let you in on a couple of snippets…

“It really was to originally be That’s It, That’s All 2 and then the more I thought about it… Lemme even take a step back further. When we were told that we could make this next movie by Red Bull the stipulation was ‘Yes, you can make this film and yes you can have this budget, but you have to make an 8 show television series.‘ So, essentially, I’m screwed because I’ve gotta create like 9 movies now.”

“The first season it was really hard to get through it but it turned out that [the TV show] started to influence me from taking a movie and making TITA 2, to an adventure documentary snowboard film. So the television show essentially helped me rethink the way I was going to make the movie.”

“Once you’ve shot snowboarding for 12, 13 years straight, the tricks start to become much less important than these little stories that become, these little adventures start to become more interesting. Like Jeremy Jones with Deeper. That movie is just INTERESTING.”

“Some people are still gonna sit on their couch and watch The Art of Flight and be like ‘Meh. Where’s the tricks?’ I mean there’s a lot of pretty ridiculous shredding in it, the teaser will be out, you’ll see, it’s psycho but, I don’t know, it’s exactly what we want it to be and I think that people will appreciate it. I think there will be 5-7 minutes stretches in the film with no snowboarding but you’re gonna be on the edge of your seat.”

“I’m not really doing it to try to outdo the last one, to impress the audience as much as im trying to outdo the last one to prove to myself that I can do it. In a sense if I can prove to myself I can do it then I’m gonna impress the audience. But the more risks you take in filmmaking, the more diverse your audience can become and… there’s more people that will hate and love it. It’s just going to become more extreme.”

“I’d heard about the [Patagonia's] Darwin Range watching National Geographic and stuff and no ones ever been there and it’s he scariest place on earth and the winds can change from 0 to 100mph in seconds  and yadayadayada. It’s literally crazier than Antarctica. So, it kinda scared me into trying it.”

“What planet the fuck are you from?” asks one gnarled old heli pilot in the teaser as Curt’s trying to convince him to fly into the Darwin Range. When you watch the teaser, you’ll be asking the same question.

Saturday

Roope Tonteri should be proclaimed King of the Groms for life as he wins yet another Rookie event, while when cruising downtown the Helgasons get shat on – make sure you scroll down for the epic spam post. Well, we think it’s spam, but maybe Halldor’s been researching how to enlarge the size of his finger cock. Friday Stateside is pretty much Saturday over here, so that’s when we were tapped on the shoulder and told the TWS Team Shootout is coming and, though it was posted a way back, it was also Saturday that we found out not only has some kid been biting Torstein’s triple steeze, he’s used his tune, too.

Sunday

Bonfire’s Pipe-to-Pipe goes down at Windells and the YoBeaters bring it with shots and slams while the AngrySnowboarder hits rewind to drop Amp on our internets. It’s winter in Kangaroo Country and the Cattleman’s Jam wraps up in Mt Buller, and though the weather was British in its shitness, it didn’t stop the bangs going down as you can see from the photos and video. Spaziba unearth this gem of a sponsor me tape from back in the day. DANIMAL! And Terje finally gets his hands on the sport’s biggest prize.

Monday

Everyone knows skateboarders are the real duders so we tend to ignore it so snowboarding doesn’t look bad, but the tenuous link that allows us to show this solid bowl riding is it went down at the Pipe-to-Pipe. Some snowboarders are good on the useless wooden toy, like Hampus Mosesson who hit up the weirdest skatepark ever. Jordan Mendenhall‘s also knows his skateboarding onions, but it’s just guitar and shredding in this Day in the Life. It’s tune time on the interpipes as Trevor Andrew talks music and Snowboard Mag bring you some free ditties, and an awesomely bad song is used in this ad which shows companies using snowboarding to sell any old shit is nothing new. (Thanks, Spaziba, but the one on your site wasn’t working.) Bringing it back to actual snowboarding, the British Snow Tour announce the dates for their Artificial and Indoor Championships.

Tuesday

After seriously injuring himself downhill biking, shred pioneer Mike Jacoby looks to be making good progress in his recovery. Get Well Soon! Some guys make Vegas look like Covent Garden circa 95, though without Guch, Jamie Lynn et al and the guys at KnifeShow turn their Awesome-ometer to 11 as they bring Super Mario World to summer camp. Talking of summer camp, the Forum Team had fun at theirs in Les 2 Alpes (stay tuned for the video, dropping soon) as did the Head Snowboards guys when they hit up Folgefonna – check out their über-slick webisode from the trip.

Nitro rocked out in 2 Alpes.

Wednesday

In the US, it’s all-out war as the Angry Snowboarder takes offense at Tyrant’s sales banter (the post that kicked it all off is here), while down under things are warming up for the NZ Open. Like Ziggy, it seems that Chanelle Sladics also plays guitar, and Les 2 Alpes is SO hot right now as two edits come in on the same day – this one with the Nitro crew, and this one of Luka Jeromel at Demonium’s camp. At what they like to refer to as the “Sports world’s Oscars” – the ESPYs – Shaun White and Torah Bright are rewarded for being ‘extreme’. And if snowboarding in the summer bores you and you’re off surfing, be careful.

Thursday

Snowboarding’s great and that, but Extreme Sledging? Way awesome! Also awesome is how despite a total lack of snow, the Falls Creek crew in Oz are making it happen. Benedek and Weber show you what you need to do to turn your old deck into a splitboard, the Helgasons have a sad fan and you can download some of Fredi Kalbermatten’s tunes. And there’s an Airbag at Hemel tomorrow should you want to work on your triples. Like Ziggy and Chanelle, Eddie Wall also plays guitar.

Friday

Uh oh. Travis Rice talks about his new movie Flight, NZ, AK and stuff while looking worryingly like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. Brothers Factory bring it with this rather dark teaser for their film, Next Level. It’s like a serial killer shot a jib flick. Less dark but still a teaser is this new one for Rip Curl’s Welcome Home Vol. II, as is this from Think Thank. Rome’s Team Shootout offering hits the airwaves and Kevin Jones (anyone else pumped to see what he’s got in Standard’s new movie?) chews the fat with photog Ian Ruhter. And finally we feel sorry for Friday as its haps are always a little glossed over in our rush to get this out before beer o’clock. Sorry, Friday.

He’s always an interesting guy to hear speak, so hearing him talk about stuff, things and That’s It, That’s All is all well and good, but where the real gold dust lies is when he’s talking about his and Brain Farm‘s new project, Flight. As soon as we heard that we dived in headfirst to watch the interview, but here’s some copy/paste chitter chatter from movie sponsors Red Bull if you want more…

Whilst shooting in Alaska last month ‘The Red Bull Chronicles’ had Curt ask Travis a couple of Q’s for us on a down day. The interview features in Ep 12 of the 24 part series about to launch on the global networks.

In 2008 Rice co-produced with filmmaker Curt Morgan one of the biggest budget blockbuster snowboard films of its time “Thats It Thats All” NZ not only featured in the opening section but also hosted the World Premier in Wanaka. It took film making in the mountains to another level. Amid the never-ending mission to find pure adventure Travis has already begun production on Chapter 2 – “Flight” With Brain Farm Cinema on your team who come armed with the in house Ciniflex V14, a Phantom HD Gold Cam, A Red One and a Varicam 3700 + enough glass to blow out any rockstars excess baggage allowance.

Add in a mass heli budget, a storage shed with trucks, quads, sleds, camera rigs.. Then top it all off with a dream line up of riders… oh and a 730 day window to produce it all! You know when it comes out its going to once again step it up a notch and set the bench mark for all those pro riders trying to build their film sections and leave winter film makers to dream some more.
