We’re big fans of the Bulgarian Ninja Squad crew, so when they fired over this edit of the boys having a goodtime jib session over Christmas we decided we’d put it out there.

Our Bulgarian brothers of the Ninja Squad fraternity – the guys responsible for the entertaining Weekend movie we posted a while back – have dropped a fun end-of-season edit as the crew take over Pamporovo and flip like motherbangers.

We think they might have been watching the I Ride Park City edits a couple times. Here it their chat…

You know when at the end of the season the weather is nice, the snow slushy, there are no gappers and you have the park just for you and your buddies. So that’s what we did few weeks ago, spend four mellow days up in Pamporovo, the T-bar was working just and only for us, the park was great and the weather was nice. We end up having a good time, doing like more than hundred flips, got a lot of booze and Monster. Anyway we had great time and that’s what it is about, check out the guest appearance by Niki, Bogi, Lozyo and Georgi Peltekov. Those days makes you value the words “friends” and “fun”.

One of the Bulgarian shred scene’s biggest contests, the Pamporovo Freestyle Open will go down from 15-18 March 2012. Check the info…

According to the info swung our way by our buddy Risto, the Pamporovo Freestyle Open is “the most significant in the Bulgarian freestyle event calendar, combining the disciplines Half-pipe and Slope style, open for ski and snowboard contestants.” For the last four years Bulgarian riders have battled it out in the different contests by day and thrown shapes on the dancefloor to the music acts that go on well into the night for each of the 4 days.

For this edition,  they’ve jacked up the slopstyle course to include 3 legit booters and are expecting the riding level to go through the roof. As the PR says, “The competition Pamporovo Freestyle Open 2012 plans to mark new heights of Bulgarian Freestyle scene with unforgettable atmosphere.” If you’re in that neck of the woods make sure you swing by and throw down, or just hang out with the homies. It’s sure to be a party…

While the riding in this is certainly far from the apex of the sport, there’s something about scenes a little off the map getting stoked on shredding that warms the cockles of your heart. We reckon this lot have worn some Videograss DVDs out in their time. Да, България!

After “Poland – A snowboard documentary”, “Slovaki A true movie about snowboarding” and last years highlight “From Romania with Love” this documentary deals with the passionate people developing snowboarding in Bulgaria. Each one of those movies has it’s own direction, it’s own heroes who may not necessarily be known to a larger audience but that all creates our common history. AT EQUILIBRIUM makes clear that we are all one big family with every little part worth to get to know.

Already the movie title says everything. The people representing the local scene are just unbelievable balanced and real which makes this movie undoubtful to the highlight of the series.

This years flick is featuring riders from more than 7 different countries including big names MARC SWOBODA, DAREK BERGMANN, GIGI RÜF, DANNY LARSEN or THOMAS FRANC. Merging that many different cultures, languages as well as riding levels has never been more interesting before.

Over the years, ‘Blickinsfreie‘ has become a household name for very interesting, off-the-beaten-track snowboard documentaries. Unfortunately, they are not as well known as, say, the annual Standard Films productions. However, their flicks on Poland (“A snowboard documentary”), Slovakia (“A true movie about snowboarding”) and of course last year’s “From Romania with Love” mark different yet very entertaining approaches to snowboard filmmaking. Well, here’s the good news, guys: They have just announced their latest documentary called “AT EQUILIBRIUM“, and it is on everything snowboarding in Bulgaria. Apart from ‘talented locals’ it features the riding of big shots like Gigi Rüf, Danny Larsen and Marc Swoboda. Just the other day we went on a ramble about Blickinsfreie productions and their latest Bulgaria project. We just received this clip from the Nitro HQ. It shows Marc Swoboda, Enrico Cavada and Darek Bergmann road-tripping in Bulgaria. It does not take a Bob Woodward to conclude that this must be a shrapnel from the mentioned project.

Anyhow, it shows some inspiring riding, great filming, and more snow than we had most of the winter!

To be honest, parties after 3am and everything east of the Dachstein glacier usually gets kind of hazy. And this despite the fact that things can be quite awesome once you get there. Take the Polish board makers Contract Snowboards: Though still hard to get by over here their gear is above par and many an Eastern European shredhead rocks their planks. Their busy marketing department just dropped us a line telling us that they are supporting René Eckert’s upcoming documentary on Bulgaria. The action will take place in Borovetz, Bansko, Osogovo and Sofia and feature local riders as well as some other European snowboarders. Check out these shots from the filming action.

Flying the flag of Slo... Rom.. Eastern Europe, yo!

If we did our maths correctly this will be his fourth snowboard movie project on Eastern Europe (after Poland 2007, Slovakia 2008, and From Romania with Love 2009). Not so coincidentally, he is also the other man behind the Breathe-documentary (with Drew Stevenson being man number one). More information on his oeuvre here. But before I digress any further let’s just say that all movies mentioned are worth watching. Unfortunately, it is way too early for any sort of teaser for the Bulgaria project. To keep you as distracted as possible we decided to post the Romania teaser from earlier this season instead.
