Mathieu Crepel is an international man of import and legacy. There is almost nothing under the sun that Mathieu hasn’t done and done well. Whether it’s cranking methods and McTwists in the Stevens Pass Retro-Fools u ditch, representing France in the Olympic Games or putting out visage melting video segments with Standard Films, he’s bien there and bon that.

Oh yeah! One of the best snowboarders out there (for real), this is Forest Bailey’s full part from Givin’s “One”! It has everything, street, jibs, backcountry, injuries, weirdness. All hail the Gnu rider!

We’re not gonna lie: there’s certainly more awe-inspiring snowboard related videos on this website. Gnu is the sister company of Lib Tech and sits happily under the unconventional Mervin Manufacturing umbrella. We say ‘unconventional’ because they were bold enough to think – “Hey, maybe snowboards could be made more better,” and allowed their mad scientists to develop Magne-Traction, Banana, and, back in the day, metal edges. Yes, Gnu were the first company to put metal edges on their snowboards back in the 80s when your parents were cool.

This board has all of the above – even metal edges. The Carbon Credit Series is Gnu’s ‘do-it-all’ board for pretty much anyone, whatever their ability. It’s easy to ride thanks to the Banana in its pocket, has killer edge grip through Magne-Traction and its twin geometries are designed to give freestyle performance no matter what the terrain. With a flex that’s best described as ‘middle-of-the-road’ it’s also accessible enough for less savvy riders to progress on but has enough in the tank for guys who know what’s up to enjoy, unless you prefer a more beasty ride. Here’s what we scribbled down on a chairlift when we took the Carbon Credit Series for a spin…

“A really amazing board that is great for almost anything. Super fun and noodly but still has loads of edge grip. The Carbon Credit is definitely one of the top 3 boards I tested. Maybe not for the full-on chargers but for anyone wanting a fun board, this is it. ”

Gnu is one of the oldest snowboard companies in the game, and shares their stable in Seattle, Washington – Mervin Manufacturing – with another rad shred brand, Lib Tech. Led by the visionary, innovative, and eclectic minds of Mike Olsen, Pete Saari and co. Mervin has been responsible for introducing many technologies we see as standard today – from metal edges, to Magne Traction, to Banana – and in the Gnu range there’s plenty of all mountain swizzle sticks, binders and the like that will give shredders wanting some OG tech the horn.

When we swung by the booth we were treated to some highlights for the 2011/2012 season. Up first there’s the Aggro Fastec bindings. These feature a reclining highback system called Fastec which let’s you get in and out super easy, and is also notable for its use of recycled materials.

In terms of boards, their range is looking sick as ever with some more tech madness that’ll have you hyped. Firstly there’s the high-end, low weight Impossible. This has a full sheet of magnesium integrated to boost stiffness while keeping the weight down. And it has glow in the dark sidewalls. Next there’s the awesomely-named Dirty Pillow – a full rockered pow board that comes in 3 sizes and with a mellow sidecut is aimed at riders wanting cruisy big mountain lines and all-mountain performance. Thirdly is the Billy Goat – Temple Cummins’ umpteenth hard-charging all mountain board is for guys who rip like Temple still does, and it now comes in a split board version. Finally it’s the Park Pickle in the spotlight, which features an innovative asymmetric sidecut on a true twin shape to give improved control on your edges.

After two years of riding, loving and winning on the Gnu B-Pro, Jamie Anderson is making it official. The South Lake Tahoe, CA-local is signing with GNU as the brand’s first “Guest Pro.”

As a celebrity guest Jamie will enjoy all of the perks of Gnu pro status including fabulous photo shoots and parties in her honor. She’ll also have the ability to work closely with Gnu’s leading design teams in Carlsborg, WA to develop new snowboards that fit her style and make riding even more fun.

“I love Gnu boards! They’re the best!” exclaimed Anderson. Fellow Gnu rider Danny Kass says of Gnu’s new recruit, “Jamie’s a one-of-a-kind rider. She’s fearless on all terrain and pushing the boundaries of park riding for women around the world.”

With a smile on her face and banana between her feet, Jamie’s one of the most celebrated female slopestyle riders ever. This winter she started off with wins at both Dew Tour stops, the O’Neill Evolution and the European Open on the B-Pro. These wins make her the current leader in the TTR series, as well as setting her up for a repeat Dew Tour championship.

In Jamie’s five years competing in pro events, she’s won multiple Roxy Chicken Jams, Grand Prix events, Burton Open Series, World Cups, Grand Prix and even a TTR overall title, just to name a few. The now 20-year-old was named 2009 Female #1 Rider of the Year by Snowboarder and won TransWorld SNOWboarding’s Women’s Rider of the Year. She also holds multiple X Games golds and a silver. Her first X Games win at 15, made her the youngest Winter X Games medalist ever.

“We are honored that Jamie chose to ride the Gnu B-pro for the last two years, while she was on the open market. Now we’re thrilled that she’s signed on as our first celebrity guest!” says Barrett Christy, Gnu Girl’s Team Captain. “We look forward to working with her to perfect our Gnu girls line.”

Gnu’s unique celebrity guest program provides support to the elite ‘celebrities,’ who the brand shares a mutual respect with. For some it may be a launching point for bigger Gnu projects, for others it may be a meaningful stop along the way to their next sponsor.

Jamie’s current ride of choice, the Gnu B-Pro is fine tuned by Barrett Christy with C2 Banana Technology and Magne-Traction. C2 is the perfect combination of camber at each end and Banana Tech between your feet. The camber gives the board end-to-end stability and pop for big landings, while the banana between feet makes for great carving on hardpack and easy float in power. A portion of Gnu B-Pro sales go to Boarding for Breast Cancer. All Gnu boards are handmade at Mervin in the USA with a bio-polymer top material made from beans and fast growing, farmed, eco wood cores.
