Hochkönig Style ChampionJIB´s took place over the weekend despite terrible visibility. Rails replaced kickers so that people could see what they were up to, where Clemens Millauer took top honours for the lads, and Lisa Veith shared the girls’ win with Kathrin Gappmayer. Here’s the organisers’ wrapup of what went down.

Jib ahoy at Blue Tomato Kings Park Hochkönig on March 9th 2013. Due to a break
in the weather, we saw sick rail action instead of massive airtime. Numerous
riders defied the conditions and showed us exciting battles on the rail-line.
Weather doesn´t matter – the participants of the Hochkönig Style Championships agreed
with this motto. In order to run a fair contest for everyone without risking injuries, the
decision was made to switch the contest setup from the kicker-line to the jib-line in the
upper park section.
No sooner said than done: the riders repaid the spectators with spectacular tricks on an 8m
downrail, an 8m straightrail and an 8m riffelpipe. Speaker Felix Prankl and the Red Bull
Brandtruck took care of mellow beats and top-notch entertainment in the chill area. Kathrin
Gappmayer, winner in the snowboard girl’s category on the contest: “I was actually
practicing and looking forward to the kickers of the Blue Tomato Kings Park Hochkönig, but
it was the best decision to run the contest on the jib line. And in the end, it was still enough
to take home the victory!”
In the snowboard men category, it was Austrian rider Clemens Millauer who showed the
best jib performance with a 270 on – 270 off on the downrail and a Cab 180 – 50-50 – 360 off
at the straightrail, and therefore took first place. His compatriots Michl Graf and Fabian
Wolfsgruber came in second and third. Young blood snowboarder Felix Reicher, also
from Austria, was able to impress the judges the most with his run. Maximilian Deutinger
and Moritz Kaufmann took second and third place.
By showing the same performance, both Kathrin Gappmayer and Lisa Veith were
crowned champions in the snowboard girls’ ranking ahead of Sabina Pintar who came in
third. “Without any pre-arrangements, we both did the same tricks in our runs, thus I am
really stoked to share the first place with Lisa,” Kathrin Gappmayer said.

The 5th edition of the TTR 2* event, the Hochkönig Style Championship Tour, is once again part of the QParks Tour. Next to the title in the Hochkönig Style Championship Tour, the riders will battle for substantial prize money of altogether EUR 1.250.-, tons of goodies and precious points for the overall QParks Tour ranking. Like last year, the slopestyle contest will be completed by a “Best Trick” ranking, in which all snowboarders can snatch themselves some extra pocket money in the form of EUR 100,-! Naturally, a perfect contest day at the Blue Tomato Kings Park Hochkönig would be nothing without fresh beats and a delicious BBQ. You still think that’s not enough to pay the Blue Tomato Kingspark a visit on the 9th of March? Well then, let Flo Galler, winner of the last Hochkönig Style Championship, give you a few more reasons, why you couldn’t possibly say no this event!

„The Hochkönig Style Championship was an awesome contest, the starting grid was packed with friends of mine and speaker Felix Prankl did a staggering job entertaining the crowd. And to top it all off, the audience was treated to a freestyle rap performance by Jonel Fricke! The Style Championship is definitely worth a visit, at the very least for its unique atmosphere.” Asked if he thought he will be able to defend his title this year – considering that he spent his entire summer surfing – Flo adds: „Snowboarding’s like riding a bike, you can’t forget how to do it / you can’t unlearn it.”

A previous winner of Best Style from the German stop, Jonel Fricke, worked the mic to keep the riders and crowd stoked whilst retail partner Blue Tomato kept spirits up with warm snacks and drinks as the 24 riders braved the snow, cold and cross winds in a bid to take the MVP and a ticket to the Nike Chosen Sessions.

Ultimately the weather ruled the comp and with Finals unable to take place riders were judged on their performance in the Qualis. Peter Walchhofer took Best Style following his inverted FS7 tailgrab, Most Creative went to Markus Bernhard by laying out a powder run to knuckle line, but handling the tough conditions by sticking everything with style and composure was Stephan Wimmer from Innsbruck – BS5s, 7s and 9s – who claimed MVP and booked his spot at The Nike Chosen Sessions in April.
