Of all the free snowboard movies of 2012, Nitro Snowboards’ full length team flick, Hyped! was probably the one making us want to go snowboarding most. It is a great combination of stellar riding (by the likes of Eero Ettala, Austin Smith, Nils Arvidsson, Justin Bennee and more) and fun stuff on and off the hill that people can relate to. And this is what it’s all about, init? Or as we said earlier this year when the flick dropped:

Hyped! is the feeling we all get when we strap into our snowboards

We posted the Hyped! teaser a while back, but now we’ve happened upon an interesting chat with director Per-Hampus Stålhandske. The team-focussed movie promises to be one of the finest shred flicks of the season, looking like it’ll successfully strike the right balance of fun, goodtimes, and heavy shredding. What is the idea behind Hyped!?

The idea for Hyped! is that the film shall convey the feeling of ultimate excitement. We are trying to focus more on how fun snowboarding actually is, not how hard it is. People can expect seeing their favorite Nitro riders riding stuff that the viewer hopefully can relate to more. Instead of only showing the best tricks on the perfect locations (we will show that as well), we are trying to show how the Nitro riders are snowboarding when all pressure is off. The goal is to capture that feeling you get when you are riding with your best friends, on a perfect day, and you never wanna stop riding.

What was your favorite moment filming for Hyped!?

I think it was our whole trip to China. The conditions were not the best, but we had such a blast. It was me (Per-Hampus Stålhandske), Austin Smith, Bryan Fox, Knut [Eliassen], Nils Arvidsson, Anton Bilare, Bob Plumb (Nitro photographer) and Mark Welsh (also Nitro photographer) to name a few. We were just filming on a really shitty half pipe á la 1992 and having so much fun. Between runs legends like Ingemar Backman, Scotty Wittlake and Michi Albin were dropping in and hitting the same thing. It felt like we were in a time machine.

Nitro have launched a video contest where you’ll need to film one run of the kind of riding that gets you amped. The reward? A spot in their upcoming movie, Hyped! To inspire you, they’ve had their team film their own One Runs, and it kicks off with Eero Ettala here…

Here’s Nitro’s breakdown of how the contest works…

The idea of a ONE RUN is to capture the everyday riding of people, what and where they normally ride, how they like to ride, and a way for people to showcase their own creativity and riding style. It is also always fun to watch how people snowboard when they snowboard just to snowboard.

Nitro is creating an on-line contest called ONE RUN in collaboration with their up coming film; Hyped! The idea is to get people (you) to go out and capture your favorite type of snowboarding, through your favorite part of the park, top to bottom run, or anything else. Be it a run through rails in the streets, park jumps, powder-runs, bombing hills, pipe runs or whatever. The important thing is that this type of riding is what makes you want to snowboard. We have gotten all of our guys to go out and film a ONE RUN of their favorite type of boarding. These videos will be released once every week.

We encourage kids to go out and film their own ONE RUN, and submit it for a chance to get there run in our upcoming movie Hyped! along with other prizes. The idea is to show how diverse everyone´s riding is. No one snowboards the same and that is what makes snowboarding so special!

Our team of riders (Eero Ettala, Jon Kooley, Austin Smith, Bryan Fox, Justin Bennee, Markus Keller, Gjermund Braaten, etc) will pick out the top three runs they think are the most inspiring, creative and showcase the persons true passion for snowboarding.
