The first thing we though when this was fire over was “A centre for ants?!” Obscure Zoolander references aside, this looks like it’ll be a good un for sure.

This is an awesome bit of vintage shred cinema. Released in 1994, The SCANDS features the first wave of Scandinavian snowboarders who exploded onto the scene and left a lasting mark. So sick.

This movie is full of riders who went on to become legends in snowboarding – it’s like a who’s who of early 90s shred talent: Injemar, Terje, Johan, Brushie, Franck… and after giving it a watch it’s tempting to say this was from when snowboarding was actually cool. It was certainly a more simple time. The focus on poking and shiftying the hell out is awesome to watch, although it seems landing wasn’t as necessary as it is today. At least punk rock tops metro pop any day of the week.

Vice’s historically-laced Powder & Rails series is back to cast its all-seeing eye over the Standard Films legacy. As with last week’s Part 1, this is 10 minutes of compulsory internetting.

If you watched Part 1 last week you’ll be frothing for this. If you missed Part 1, watch it now and then come back and watch this. This has footage of and chat about Johan Olofsson’s legendary TB5 part in it goddamnit! It also drives home the intensity of working on producing the backcountry hero shots that many take for granted. Essential viewing.

It’s a nugget of pure 18-carat gold that the time machine’s thrown up today – Johan Olofsson’s legendary part from Standard’s TB5 – AKA the best video part in the world ever.

Really, we should quit this series after posting Johan’s part from TB5 because, let’s face it, we’ll never post a better clip. Legend has it that the Standard Films guys were pretty impressed with the skills of this young Swedish buck called Johan. He was turning heads with his freestyle skills and on the off chance they offered him a spot on their annual AK trip to maybe get a shot or two to fill out a small part in their forthcoming film.

Johan seized the opportunity with both hands, went ballistic and wrote himself a page in snowboarding’s legend. Filmed in 1996, this part is still insane.

The guys at Teton Gravity Research have begun chucking up some of their favourite parts from their old movies on the internet. Giving them a much deserved second life. First up is Jeremy Jones and Johan Olofsson‘s joint closing segment from Mind the Addiction. They didn’t say what year it’s from, we’re guessing it’s somewhere around 1999/2000, but one thing is for sure – they destroy huge line after huge line in AK. To Metallica.
