Summer Camp action from Windells at Mt. Hood! Wooooo!

Summer 2011 has officially begun and Session 1 is in the books! Mother Nature has been generous this winter and we’ve got more snow than we know what to do with. Combine that with around a dozen new features and you’ve got an amazing place to ride! Yobeat dropped in on session one and brought the likes of Forest Bailey, Will Bateman, Nial Romanek, and Johnny Lazz to rip it up! Enjoy!

This Friday, from 4-6 pm Eastern, you’ll be able to ask the Rome SDS team whatever you’d like, and they’ll get back to you live on video.

The team is in town visiting the Rome office, so we thought we’d set up a camera for a couple hours and let snowboarders all over the word fire questions their way. On hand we’ll have Eiki Helgason, Bjorn Leines, Lucas Debari, Laurent “LNP” Paquin, Will Lavigne, Johnny Lazz, MFR, and Johnnie Paxson, and they’ll all be drifting in and out of the camera answering your questions.

There will be a few ways to check out and participate in the interview:

1. Visit our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/romesnowboards and “like” it. There we’ll have an embedded video in our update stream where all you have to do is “comment” your questions, and the team will answer.
2. Watch on the Shred Remains Blog http://www.romesnowboards.com/theshredremains/. We’ll also be streaming the interview through the Blog. You won’t really be able to ask questions through the Blog, but at least you’ll be able to see the team answer other people’s questions.
3. Check out our UStream feed at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ask-the-rider. If you’re logged in, you’ll be able to ask questions right in the video window.
If all this seems confusing you can either re-read the info above, or email in at ridercouncil@romesnowboards.com and we should be able to walk you through it. Also, feel free to email in some questions ahead of time and we’ll be able to hand them off to the riders to answer during the interview.

As a bonus, the crew will be giving away some stuff throughout the 2-hour interview. So tune in during class, during work, or wherever you’re at and fire some questions over during the designated time.

After a year off, the Rome crew are busy shooting for their new team movie, The Shred Remains, which is set to drop this autumn. Here’s what’s been going down…

Rome: Big in Japan.

The filming of The Shred Remains has officially kicked off. Although we’ve gotten a couple shots here and there in prior weeks, this was the first real trip to get the project underway. Eiki, Lazz, Will and Paxson along with filmer Leland McNamara, Team Director Ryan Runke, TWS and Method-Mag photographer Frode Sandabech and myself (John Cavan) jumped some flights from around the world for the mellow 26 jaunt to Sapporo, Japan. Yes, the home of Sapporo and Asahi beer. Where we were greeted by Rome Japan distributors Akira and Shuichi along with Rome Japan riders Koni and Doo. A quick note on the guys from Rome Japan… they’re all time. They had it so dialed. They helped us link up with Freerun Mag guys 2C and Max who helped us scout a ton of spots, and they where our translators for the trip, which was a huge help. A big thanks goes out to those guys, without all the help things wouldn’t have gone as smoothly, that’s for sure.

Traveling in Japan is interesting to say the least. It’s pretty intense how many people there are everywhere you go, and your senses are constantly bombarded with new things. Smells, sounds and sights are all unfamiliar, traffic moves at an alarming rate, they drive on the opposite side of the road, and the steering wheel is on the right hand side so it gets a little complicated, unless you’re a US driver with dyslexia, then you’d probably slay it. Throw in the language barrier and sometimes even the simplest of tasks becomes very difficult, like for instance… dealing with cops. Not easy.

It’s crazy how much filming has changed over the years. Everything we’re looking at these days is huge, from rails to gaps. All the stuff we did on this trip was large and required a lot of work, add in the fact that there was a ridiculous amount of snow in the city, and as you can imagine we ended up doing a ton of shoveling. We were running a pretty hectic schedule over here shooting in the daylight then a quick dinner, and back out for vampire sessions. For the full look at our trip you’ll have to wait for the movie, but here are a couple photos to give you a sneak peek. We’re headed off to France with a new crew in the morning so stay tuned for more updates from the road.
