The Relentless Freeze Festival will once again pitch up in the shadow of Battersea Power Station, London this coming weekend (October 26-27 2012) and give the diamond geezers of England’s capital the chance to witness some epic snow stunts before getting well and truly mashed bopping to one of the many music acts they’ve got lined up. Freeze takes on a new direction for 2012 with the creation of an Invitational Snowboard Event. Snowboarding at Freeze will now be open to any rider – allowing an unrestricted field to the UK’s only international snowboard event.

Relentless Energy Drink Freeze Festival Snowboarding Competitions include the Freeze Snowboarding International Big Air as well as the Whitelines Battle of Britain. Nowhere else in the UK will you witness this level of competitive snowboarding. Sure, we love to say we don’t care about comps, forget it, they all want to win this one!

Snowboarding at Freeze will now be in the shape of an international invitation only event. This results in no restriction on entries and because of this Freeze will invite only the biggest and best names in snowboarding from around the world for Freeze 2012, including Eiki Helgason, Gjermund Bråten, Jamie Nicholls and Ståle Sandbech – you can check the full rider list here. A new series of competitons have been launched for 2012: unrestrained by the regimentation of FIS regulations. Europe VS The World Rider cup and a new ‘Best Trick Wins’ Catergory.

2011 saw double corks as standard and with progression at, quite frankly, ridiculous levels its anyone’s guess as to what might be witnessed. Jani Korpi of Finland took the crown in 2011 followed by Seppe Smits from Belgium and Joris Ouwerkerk from the Netherlands. Come Saturday 27^th October, who will be the Freeze Champion 2012?

The music lineup is looking just as awesome. Freeze 2012 will feature one of the most explosively genre-spanning sets since it’s inception. The likes of DJ Shadow, Mark Ronson and Zane Lowe prepare to etch their own unique brands of mash-up on the London skyline, whilst Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash fine-tune their timeless crowd thumpers.

Salomon UK have fired us over this hot-off-the-press edit of their boy Jamie Nicholls’ recent time at the Relentless London Freeze. Peepit.

Though he didn’t make it on the podium, Nipples nevertheless put in a sterling performance that landed the scamp in a more than respectable 4th place overall while putting down probably more double cork back 10s than is healthy for his young brain. One more thing. Can anyone tell us who he rides for these days? Would be great to know…

Peep highlights of the top 3 stuntings from the Relentless Freeze that went down in London last weekend. Usually we wouldn’t post FIS gymnastics but we like Battersea Power Station and Janne’s front 10 double is Halldor-esque in it’s narcoleptic style…

So, yeah, Finnish laddo Janne Korpi beat out stompmeister Seppe Smits and rookie flatlander Joris Ouwerkerk to take a deserved win in this London spin-fest. Sadly for the home crowd the UK’s own Jamie Nicholls only managed 4th, but making the final and finishing ahead of  Gjermund Braten, Marko Grilc and Ståle Sandbech is nothing to be ashamed of, and we’re betting the London faithful were in good voice for the boy.

But the glory belonged to Janne, who’s über-lazy front 10 double and back 12 nudged him a couple points ahead of Seppe’s Cab 12 and back 12 with Joris completing the podium. Not sure what non-FIS judges would make of the knee grab dubs but he looks young and has time to learn. More importantly: what can event organizers do to prevent the monotony of endless back 10 ‘doubles’ this season? Answers on a postcard.

Our mate Fuller stalks his pervy way around the Freeze with his trusty GoPro attached to what he refers to as his ‘massive pole.’ Yer, right. Don’t think Jamie and Jenny were that into the kicker….

Yes, that’s not an exaggeration, we have a holiday in Whistler and a silly amount of kit up for grabs over the next couple of weeks at two British-based events: The Ski and Snowboard Show and the Relentless Freeze Festival. Hadouken!, Roni Size, Bedouin Soundclash and Skindred have been confirmed for the Freeze Festival (transformed for the London Freeze), going down for the third time on October 29-31st.

Here’s the full lowdown on the action that is to be expected:

Hadouken! have been tagged as Britain’s next great dance-rock band and will be appearing on Sunday night. Their mixture of blasting beats and crunching guitars will ensure their reputation for explosive live sets continues when they play at the event, taking place at the iconic Battersea Power Station. Further acts for Sunday will be announced soon.
Headlining Friday’s dance line-up is Roni Size, the Mercury Music Prize winner whose influence in the drum ‘n’ bass scene has made him a true pioneer of the music scene, and he will be appearing with MC Jakes. Bristol native Size’s musical credits span numerous projects and releases which has helped him to build a huge and loyal audience.
Joining him on the dance line-up for Friday night are The Nextmen, the eclectic production duo whose show-stopping performances and explosive club sets have garnered them an army of fans across the dance scene. Mixing electronica with a range of styles, the party-smashing DJ’s weave their magic on the decks and using their mastery of four turntables, offer a range of mash-ups, edits, bootlegs and specials. They will be appearing with MC Wrec.
Also on the dance bill for Friday is highly acclaimed breakbeat DJ Krafty Kuts alongside MC Dynamite. Their high energy act and thumping sounds guarantee a rocking set. Fabric legends Scratch Perverts will bring their own unique style and a raft of fans to the Freeze Festival when they take to the stage. Also confirmed on the bill is ground-breaking DJ and remix artist Jaguar Skills, renowned for his “ninja DJ’ing” and incredible mash-up skills. Friday’s line-up is completed by Charlie G, Klimax and Benny MC.
The Relentless Energy Drink Stage at Freeze Festival features an eclectic mix of talent, including Bedouin Soundclash, the Canadian outfit whose creative approach fuses reggae, rock, punk and soul music into a brilliant blend of cultural sounds, headlining on Saturday. Their fans can look forward to the same energetic and soulful live performances which have wowed and entertained audiences both here in the UK and on the world stage.
Welsh band Skindred are the headline act on the Relentless Energy Drink Stage on Sunday, offering Freeze Festival-goers a crazed mash-up of reggae, ragga, metal and punk. Skindred are one of the world’s most inventive rock bands and when the action on the snow slope comes to an end, festival fans will be fired up by their raucous live performance.
Andrew Topham, Event Director, commented: “Last year, our unique offering of world class winter sports combined with cutting-edge global and UK acts attracted over 20,000 festival-goers to the action at Battersea. This year’s event will see our biggest and best line up to date, and we are delighted to announce the first acts to perform under the iconic towers. Look out for further acts to be announced, including the headliners for Saturday and Sunday.”
The event will also see the world’s best skiers and snowboarders competing on the specially erected 100m long, 32m high real snow ramp, which for three days becomes an iconic site across London. The riders throw themselves off the huge jump performing their best tricks for World ranking points and a share of the prize purse Over the last two years, Olympic medalists Danny Kass, Peetu Piiroinen, Scotty Lago have battled it out with the best of the Brits beneath the iconic Battersea Power Station towers.

Freeze Festival, the UK’s only snow sports and music festival is back: 29th – 31st Oct 2010. Once again, Battersea Power Station will be transformed into a ski resort hosting world class snowboarders from around the world. 2009 drew huge crowds to the South London site to witness the new and improved event site and enjoy what was the UK’s winter highlight. 2010 promises more of the same except with bigger names across the world’s of sport and music.

The 32m high kicker will sit next to the iconic towers of Battersea Power Station once again. 500 tonnes of real snow will be produced and packed onto the slope: the icing on the winter sports village cake. The big air jump will form the central hub of the competition returning as the biggest of its kind ever created in the UK. The overall length from the top of the jump to the landing strip will be 110m, with a 17m table top drop from which competitors from around the globe will be showcasing their talents.

The festival will kicks off on the Friday with a Battle of Britain snowboard contest. The best of British talent will battle it out for the title of top dog in the UK and last year’s winner Jamie Nicholls will return to defend their titles.

On Saturday the LG London Big Air event, part of the FIS LG Snowboard World Cup, takes centre stage: the main competition for snowboarders. All riders taking part can score crucial ratings points in their quest to become World Champions. Last year’s event winner and World Cup Champion, Stefan Gimpl (AUT) will be returning to defend his title.

Alongside the stellar line-up of winter sports action, there will be a world-class music bill across the weekend to entertain the après-ski revelers. The main music tent has been extended this year to hold a massive 15,000 capacity crowd.
