Yes, this just happend. A 13-year-old just landed a backside 1440 triple cork. The world’s gone mad. 

We’re sure you’re familiar with pint-sized Norwegian Markus Kleveland from a couple of mind-blowing edits that dropped over the last couple of years, including this one where he puts down Cab double 12s… at a mere 12-years old. Now he’s gone and turned it up to 11 by stomping a back triple 14 at a kicker session in Vierli, Norway.

“I was inspired when I saw Torstein Horgmo landed the triple cork for the first time three years ago,” says Marcus. “Since then I have wanted to try it, and the first time I dared to try was at the Red Bull Performance Camp in Sun Valley last year. But the jump there was too small, and I landed on ice. Now everything was perfect, though.”

However, it turns out that our Marcus has had a seriously unfair advantage over the rest of us. We discovered he’s actually been snowboarding since he was 3 and we guarantee that if we too had started at such a tender age we’d totally be triple dipping all over the shop too and this wouldn’t be a big deal. Sadly the snowboard had yet to be invented when we were three, and more importantly the internet couldn’t play video when we were 13 either, so we missed the opportunity to snag the fame and glory this young kid from Dombås will surely have coming his way.

Usually, the ‘chance’ to ride with a 13-year-old grom might have you rolling your eyes as you contemplate a day of babysitting, however in the case of doublecorking Norwegian phenomenon Marcus Kleveland it’s an opportunity to learn from a kid who’s been alive for less time than you’ve been snowboarding and is already better than you could ever dream of being.

Actually, though, this Ride with Kleveland day put on by Nitro and Kitzsteinhorn was a chance for other talented groms to rip the park with MK, get some pointers and show off their own emerging talents. Cue a day of park laps, pow slashes and sessioning a host of single hits.

Under bluebird skies, the BEO wrapped up another edition in Laax with the Junior slopestyle and halfpipe contests for kids aged 14 and younger.

The Junior’s division of the BEO is a virtual crystal ball into snowboarding’s future, and after witnessing what went down in the immaculately groomed pipe and slopestyle courses it is clear that that future is bright. IPod, Peetu, Sörman… these dudes and more have scooped wins as juniors so it’s always interesting to check this aspect of the event.

And announce themselves they did: 12-year-old Chloe Kim (USA) scored a near-flawless 99.17 points to win the girls’ pipe and later dominated the slopestyle too while Marcus Kleveland (NOR) and Jake Pates (USA) at 13 and 14 respectively showed precocious skills that belie their tender ages. The top two boys and the winning girl also snagged an invite to the US Open from February 25th to March 2nd where they’ll have the chance to ride against their heroes, as well as bagging an invite to next year’s BEO. But as much as the Juniors event is about the frankly mindblowing riding these children are capable of, a huge part of it is also the sight of diminutive kids that can appear more helmet than human riding a 6.7m superpipe and just being stoked to do so with their family and friends.

And, erm, we rode lots of pow with the homies too.

It was a pretty banging day and a positive ending to an event that’s had some challenges to overcome due to the bad weather earlier in the week. So that’s that for another edition of the BEO. Thanks Burton and co. and see you next year for #15!

The future stars of snowboarding.

The pint-sized Norwegian with the bright future drops another edit of him being way too good at snowboarding. Watch it.

You might remember this young buck from the edits we posted of him last season as a 12-year-old stomping double corks. Now he’s 13, and has this edit of him doing dubs again, Cab doubles, back 10s, 12s, Cab 12s and more. The world’s gone mad.

You might remember we posted a video of young buck Markus back in winter, when the 12-year-old übergrom was filmed stomping Cab double corks, and now we’ve got another clip for you that’ll have your heads shaking.

This bro-cam edit starts out all nice and mellow, with the kind of riding you’d expect of a talented pre-teen (Ok, maybe the frontflip aside), but as soon as he gets on the rails and, later, the kickers it’s clear that this boy’s got skills way beyond his years.

Stop and check this video. This Norwegian grom stomps a Cab double 9, 10 and 12 and caused us to officially abandon any hopes we still harbored of becoming professional snowboarders.

Right, that’s it. This is getting stupid. As we all know there’s been something of a barrage of internet videos of pre-teen snowboarders being precociously good, but this one sure takes the biscuit.

Norwegian rug rat Markus Kleveland is 12 years old and just had a video of him landing a Cab double 9, 10 and 12 posted to the internet. They didn’t even have the internet when we were 12. This is all a little bit too much.

And look, he even has a blog that he doesn’t seem to update as he’s no doubt way too busy getting madness like this on lock. We’ll hunt down our homie Thomas Harstad to find out more about this kid when we’ve scooped out brains back in our earholes.

Ok, a bit more info on the boy. So he was born in Lillehammer in April 1999, rides for Nitro and was stoked when he got to hang out with Gjermund Bråten according to his team profile. Following in the footsteps of Bang, Horgmo, Baderstscher, Sandbech and Bråten in recent years, Markus looks to be another Norwegian kid on the fast track to the bigtime. Is the Scandi centre of shred power shifting from Finland to Norway?

Markus Kleveland, Cody Warble, Brock Crouch, Jack Herald. Remember those names. Most of these man-children are what could be dangerously called pre-teens, but we’ll just call them way too frickin’ good for their age, the rats.

Volcom took four of their most promising übergrom division – Norwegian Markus Kleveland and American kids Cody Warble, Brock Crouch and Jack Herald – to what looks like a private park for spring break and let them loose – no assembly, no homework, just straight up shredding. Back 7s and Rodeos on man sized jumps? No biggie.

And to think it only seems like yesterday when we were being blown away by the likes of Shaun White, Mikkel Bang and Fredrik Austbo at similar ages.
