2nd – Near Death: Darrah Reid-McLean’s Minnesota Fence Slam

Oh sweet baby Jesus. To this day we have no idea how Peep Show rider Darrah Reid-McLean was able to walk after folding her back like a taco on that rail, let alone be able to ride again last season to put down a solid part in Winter Wars. Though we posted it in March and have seen it several times since, watching this still makes us weep.

1st – Mindblowing Snowskating Video

And number 1 in our chart of the most popular videos posted to the Onboard website in 2011 is… erm… not even a snowboarding video. But the machine doesn’t lie and it is certainly a mindblowing clip showing some full-on legit snowskating. We’d imagine there’s gonna be a couple of people with one of these in their lockers for bad weather days this winter.

4th – Dual Snowboards – WTF?!

The human mind is a beautiful and powerful thing, but sometimes it comes up with some really stupid ideas. One of these was put in to production. Yet still, as in May when we first posted this, we love it when they run…

3rd – Massive Russian Avalanche Video

From (badly applied) powers of the mind to the power of Mother Nature. And Russians with heavy artillery. Excuse the potty mouth but that was fucking mental.

6th – World’s First Switch Backside 1440 Triple Cork

The exclusive Triple Cork Club found itself a new member back in April as young Swiss buck Pat Burgener manned up and, rather than follow in the footsteps of Mark McMorris and Seb Toutant (who’d earlier but down back triple 14s) sent one switch. Impressive spinnery.

5th – The Funnest Looking Snowboard Park Ever

We don’t need to write many words here. Look at it. Just LOOK at it. That thing looks so fun, and you guys thought so too. Posted at the end of February, this had y’all hyped enough to land it in 5th place.

4 and 3 drop in a couple days.

8th – Near Death: Skier Falls Off Cliff

While we like nothing more than mocking our tall-teed doppelplankers, when we saw this and witnessed the full horror of what happened we were more than stoked the guy seemed Ok at the end. Jeez, imagine the tug in your gut. Oof.

7th – The Art of Flight Teaser 2: Very Metal

Unsurprisingly in 7th place is another clip dealing with The Art of Flight, this time it’s their second teaser. And as they did with That’s It, That’s All, Brain Farm followed up their first tickler with a subsequent one with a Metal soundtrack that spiked the internet back in July. Raar.

Places 6 – 5 drop in a couple days, so swing back then.

So here is the beginning of our rundown of what the Google machine tells us were the most popular videos we posted in 2011. And as a disclaimer, we’d like to add that this says more about you than it says about us…

10th – Euro Gap 1 Full Movie

Though we posted it in 2010 (as a ramp-up to the release of the most excellent Euro Gap 3), this gem of a full movie from the beginning of the 2000s by brothers of other mothers Joni Malmi and Paavo Tiikkanen still had enough people sniffing it out to land it in the 10th spot. And rightly so. If ever there was a movie that celebrated the raw radness that is a pro snowboarder’s life, this is it.

9th – The Art of Flight Teaser 1

Being that it’s been watched, rewatched, reviewed, read about, dissected, criticised, praised and marketed the hell out of in the intervening months, it’s almost possible to forget the frothing enthusiasm the release of this first teaser generated back in February. Nah, not really. People were hyped to see the first glimpse of TAOF, as they will be the next time Rice and Morgan release their next anything.
