Moreboards presented another edition of their Stubai Premiere last weekend, and this highlights edit shows what went down. In short: goodtimes.

Stubai’s Zoo park was the third glacier park in Austria to get an official opening weekend, following on from Hintertux and Kaunertal, and a good crew of riders and public showed up to enjoy the fun.

That park’s now open (depending on weather, of course) so if you’re digging what you see then go to the Stubai Zoo website for the full lowdown.

From September 30th to October 2nd 2011, the seventh edition of the Hotzone.tv Hintertux Park Opening will ring in the new season on Austria’s Hintertux glacier!

This year the winter season will be kicked off earlier than ever, to be precise on September 30th at the Hintertux glacier. While rainy summer is dragging on, the Betterpark is already preparing for the first season opening of the winter. Such a perfect set up is something the big guns in snowboarding don’t want to miss out on, and so the likes of Marko Grilc, Seppe Smits, Wolle Nyvelt, Gigi Rüf, Werni Stock and Wojtek Pawlusiak have become regulars at the Hotzone.tv Park Opening Hintertux over the past years. Together with a whole array of side activities, including video world premier and the usual party mayhem, this should convince even the last doubters that the journey to Hintertux is well worth it!

The Hotzone.tv Park Opening Hintertux isn’t the most popular snowboard opening in Europe for no reason. A perfectly shaped Betterpark, long runs down to the Fernerhaus, more than 20 brands offering free test gear, queue free ascents with the high performance Gletscherbus Gondola, a special obstacle right in front of the Fernerhaus, and even a fully shaped super pipe (if snow conditions suffice), guarantee an amazing weekend in the Tuxer valley. Everyone who is already shaped up for battling can try to win some fame and money at the open pro and am contest Hotzone.tv Session of the Dudes. And there are even more bucks to be made at the Cash for Trix session at the special obstacle in front of the Fernerhaus on Sunday.

Of course there’s also the usual variety of side events with DJ NLP from Straubing providing the soundtrack for the test area during the day and the BBQ station catering for all the hungry ones. Later in the afternoon follows the After Shred Session at the glacial parking lot on Saturday, which is all about THE UNBREAKABLE BATTLE presented by gloryfy. What’s to expect from that will not be revealed yet, but there is an Original Bag Jump involved… Apart from that K2 is searching for the new “King of Pop” again in their K2 Pop This! Highest Ollie Tournament.

The park. Yes, it will be awesome.

Sunday calls talented kids under 16 on the glacier for the exclusive Billabong Kids Shoot, with team rider and Zillertaler shred legend Wolle Nyvelt coaching to ensure money shots. Don’t wait too long though, as spots are limited and only for those who pre-register at www.hotzone.tv before the event and have the form signed by their parents with them on the hill. And who knows, one participant even bagged a 1-year sponsorship with Billabong from this last year – which could well happen again this year.

The party mayhem is inaugurated by the SHRED Warm Up Party in the Kleine Tenne in Tux on Friday, with Wax Wreckaz’s DJ BUSY FINGAZ making those dancing shoes move. The big Opening Night on Saturday is presented by Australian board and lifestyle brand RHYTHM and will go down in the Hohenhaus Tenne in Hintertux. Next to finest tunes by the WAX WRECKAZ DJ KOLLEKTIV (Innsbruck) and the DJ duo SMITH UND SMART (Berlin) you can also look forward to the world premier of the latest snowboard movie by Argon Films, EUPHORIA.

Based on the massive onslaught in the past years, we strongly recommend to reserve party tickets beforehand on www.hotzone.tv, buy them in one of the three hotzone subsidiaries (Gerlos, Mayrhofen, Schwaz) or the insider Shop in Tux, or get them from the test area at the Fernerhaus. Please bring your ID as there is no entrance under 16 years!

And another little hint: look for accommodation in Tux, check www.tux.at for availabilities.

For more info and all the details go to www.hotzone.tv – if summer is weak, winter is going to be even stronger!

Being that we’re in Europe, we often have to reply on second hand information when it comes to the haps Stateside. So, chugging our lungs full of second-hand smoke, here’s what Shannon Johnson made of the recent opening of Mammoth Mountain, where a heap of heavy hitters showed up to throw down and party…

The top to bottom terrain delivered some banger riding for weekend warriors, die-hard shredders, industry vets and top of the line pros that came out to partake in the big kick off to winter. Any rider could find pow stashes from the recent 2 foot dump that Mammoth received earlier in the week on Thursday and beautiful sunny skies that kept the mountain in a great state of mind throughout the weekend. A lap into Unbound Park offered up over a dozen features including new urban sets – stairset with two boxes/one rail, concrete ledge and plantar box. For many skiers and riders, it was one of the best opening days they’ve seen at Mammoth. Local Mammoth team rider Trevor Jacob said opening day was “super fun, a lot more snow than expected and park was setup in full effect.”

Leanne Pelosi and her girls were in full effect.

The who’s who of snowboarding came out in the masses over the weekend. Mammoth welcomed pros like Louie Vito, Eddie Wall, Forest Bailey, Zac Marben, Travis Rice, John Jackson, Mason Aguirre, Hana Beaman, Trevor Jacob, Peter Line, Johnny Lazz and many others frequented the terrain over the weekend.

Each night there was a different party in the village. Rome started out the season by hosting the pre-opening day party and ended with hot dogs and brews in the parking lot in Main Lot. Hyde Lounge kicked off the season on Thursday with the Hyde 2.0 Launch party, continued into Friday with the Unbound Magazine party where touching elbows with pros all night was a given. Saturday was an all day event with the TWS 200th issue party, “Another Day in Paradise” premiere before The Sounds concert and official after party. Red Bull’s Pat Stahl said “The Sounds melted his face off and for once Hyde Mammoth was harder to get into than Hollywood.” Every bar in The Village had something going on and was filled with people taking the party from the slopes to the dance floor. The highlight of the weekend was John Jackson and Travis Rice crowd surfing the VIP line in to Hyde on Saturday night.

Next up is Rome SDS Premature Jibulation Rail Jam on November 20, Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam on December 11 and Night of Lights on December 18.

Time flies. One month ago, the Horsefeathers Superpark Dachstein opened it’s gates for the Summer season 2010.
On the opening weekend we had great fun, and about 400 riders enjoyed the sunshine and 20° C.
The first contest – the Ride and Roar Rail Jam was a great success for the Blue Tomato Team. Flo Galler won the sb mens and our new teamrider Urska Pribosic won the sb wmns.

The finishing of the Opening Weekend was the Horsefeathers party in Schladming, where is seemed like the party will never come to an end.

Click the clip to see what happened of the Opening Weekend.

However, that was just the beginning of the Summer season.

Horsefeathers and the Dachstein Team organized some great camps; from jib and chill to girls camps to coaching and scouting weekends. So there was something for everybody. More about the Camps here.

QParks brought the video contest Copy and Post into being, where you have to copy some tricks, put them on video and send them to QParks. You want to show your moves? Then go to qparks.com

And of course there were heaps of shootings, like the Blue Tomato Rookie Shooting.

We can guarantee all snowboard-fans an extended Christmas feast: the Horsefeatheres Superpark Planai opens its gates on the 24th of December 2009 and celebrates its Big Park Opening on the 26th of December 2009 with chilled-out vibes and many specials.

While most of us have spent the relaxed times over the summer exchanging snowboards for surfboards and skateboards, QParks took the shovel to extend the set-up in the Horsefeathers Superpark Planai. The complete park-area got bigger, a new 3 laned kicker-line for advanced- and pro-riders has been installed and the whole beginner and intermediate section has been expanded with new rails and boxes.

While snowwise we had a little delay in the heart of Austria, Bernd Mandlberger and his crew guarantee the park set-up of the predominant part of the Horsefeathers Superpark Planai (excluding the pro kicker line) until the 24th of December.

And two days later follows the first event highlight:
From 10 a.m. on the gates of the Horsefeathers Superpark Planai will be opened and the park invites its guests for a common riding session accompanied by the rockin sounds of DJ Truckdriver and the speaker. During the morning all riders have the opportunity to get professional pictures taken of themselves on various obstacles at the public photo and film shooting. The final material can be downloaded from the website www.horsefeatherssuperpark.com afterwards. To regain energy, at 2 p.m. the rider-specials lunch can be collected at the Weitmoosalm. At different points of time, a couple of Goodies-for-Trix sessions will be going on at various obstacles at which everyone can win awesome prizes from our partners and sponsors.

At 9 p.m. the party folk meets at the Friends bar in Schladming for the Horsefeathers Superpark Opening Party, where DJ tdk will heat the atmosphere with his diverse tunes and let all freestylers turn the night into day.

The Timetable of the Big Park Opening at the Horsefeathers Superpark Planai, 26.12.09:

10 a.m. Big Park Opening Entrance

11:30 – 1 p.m. Public Film-Photo Session different obstacles

1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Goodies-for-Trix Sessions Box, Rail, Kicker

As an early Christmas-gift for all snowboard-fans, the Horsefeatheres Superpark Planai opens its gates on the 19th of December 2009. Its “big brother”, the Atomic Superpark Dachstein, will be open at least until the 13th December. This will be a seamless transition to the upcoming winter season and once again, the Schladming-Dachstein region provides 10 months of freestyle!

In the course of the summer 09, QParks has heavily worked on the earth-terrain-forms and now the Horsefeathers Superpark Planai lights up in a completely new shine: The complete park-area was extended, a new 3 laned medium and pro kicker-line has been installed and the whole beginner and intermediate section has been expanded with new rails and boxes. Bernd Mandlberger and his crew will prepare as many obstacles as possible for the big opening on Dec 19th. Because of the warm temperature there is unfortunately too less snow at the moment for building up a decent set-up. Against the forecast Bernd and his team have decided to set up at least the beginners line. Needless to say, they are waiting impatiently for the first “real” snow.

At the opening there will be free coaching with snowboard pro-riders such as Max Weickl who placed 3rd at the Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam, be sure he can give you some helpful tips and tricks. Another highlight will be the public Photo – and Film-shooting at which all riders get the opportunity for having professional pictures taken of oneself at various obstacles. The final material can be downloaded on www.horsefeatherssuperpark.com And to be sure you won’t get bored if taking some timeout between your runs, our speaker and the tuning beats of LIVE DJ tdk will keep you entertained. To regain energy, at 2 pm the riders-special can be collected at the Weitmoosalm. There will also be some Goodies-for-Trix sessions at various obstacles at which everyone can win awesome prizes from our partners and sponsors.

Around the park-area the 2nd Blue Tomato Kids Snowboard Day will take place, where the younger audience will become the focus. Juniors will be taught the basics of snowboarding by professionals. Thereby, freestyle coachings, beginner courses and rental equipment will be provided totally for free! Further information can be obtained HERE

The Horsefeathers Superpark Opening Party at the Friends Bar in Schladming will start rocking at 9 pm: DJ tdk will heat the atmosphere with his diverse tunes, and we will turn the night into day!

Be on the spot and get all the information on www.horsefeatherssuperpark.com or on www.qparks.com

Here’s the second part of our Blog Update…

Catalogue Cover Shooting Story

It was in the middle of February and it was dumping since almost a week. As we heard the forecast saying that snowfall will fade overnight and the next day will be sunny, it was clear to us that on the next day we had to get up early. With great expectations we rose the next day as early birds and the blue sky and the shimmering winter landscape showed us that this was the only right thing to do. We packed our stuff very fastly, took our breakfast in the car and off we went to Flachauwinkl.

When we arrived in Flachauwinkl we were hurrying to get up the mountain. The guys (Roli Scharmer and Flo Galler) were highly motivated and the ride on the ski lift became a spot-search game. We went straight to the spot I discovered the day before with Josh (Absenger). I wasn’t sure if it would work properly as the landing was very flat. But the guys agreed that there was no problem because the powder was so deep. We quickly built a kicker, played Rock, Paper, Scissors and Roli was first at the Run In.

The final shot for the cover.

Unfortunately he had to wait for about 15 minutes because in the meantime there appeared too many clouds which were hiding the sun. Finally all was perfect and Roli cleared the tree with a lovely Shifty Bonk. Flo put another log on the fire with a FS 1 and the session was opened up. The guys did some more FS 1 until the shot was perfect and nothing had to be concealed anymore. Later on we realized that the landing was not as safe as we thought. In the middle of all the tracks we found the chop of a fence. It wouldn’t have been that much fun if anybody had landed on it.

Roli at his method pillow line.

Flo Galler at his pillow drop down.

So we packed our things and went of to the spot which Josh had already prepared. It was a Pillow Drop Down. Josh, Roli and Flo did a BS 1 over it and all of them looked like a lot o fun. After that we straight went to a pillow line which ended with a drop. The boys hiked the line twice and I had some fine Methods in the can.

Flo after his FS 3 bail.

From that moment the light was getting worst and we decided that this was it for the day. The guys offered to carry my foto stuff so I had the time to get my own powder line. On our trip home we were all stoked and reviewed the day by looking at the pictures. The camera was passed around in the car and we laughed about bails and gave props for style.

Flo and Roli are hiking the pillow line.

Thanks guys for the sick day. Those are the days of which I think in summer when I am looking forward to winter!

Ciao, Simon

The film was done in cooperation with Blue Tomato and it is for sure one of the most different and entertaining Snow and Skate movies in 2009! It features the riding of Blue Tomato Teamriders Marc Swoboda, Domenik Wagner und Diz Pichler plus Seppi Scholler, Matevz Pristavec, Thomas Feurstein, Flo Mausser, Xico Basabe, Allesandre Massotti, Thomas Vevjar and Friends.

From powder shots at the Arlberg and in Switzerland, massive park jumps in Slovenia, Sweden and the Superpark to the Special “rainbow jib session”. This movie is a good mix of powder, park and jibs! Also the skaters Xico Basabe, Allessandro Massotti and Thomas Vevjar spent days and nights filming and you will see that it was worth it. Besides this, the riders show that some of them also got other “hidden talents” and the whole crew guaranties that this is for sure the most entertaining and flashiest movie in 2009

Just for you we interviewed one of the Loveolution Masterminds Seppi Scholler:

How did it come to making a Team Video?

There was some intention to make a video but the idea of making something own has been around for a longer time. There is always a lot of responsibility in “power”. I have to say that I have a lot of respect for each and every film production because now I experienced (in a smaller setting) how much work you have to invest if you want to make a good video. At this point I would like to thank my old friend Naisi for having that much patience with me in the past and also Gipsy who enabled us to film our movie!

You won’t believe how much work it is to do everything… from the first Team meeting on: filming, trips, PR of the movie, cutting, animation, stickers, shirts, flyers, video premieres, media partners and not to forget shoveling for days and hiking for spots. Hard to believe how much work hides in some spots.

As already mentioned, the project occupied me apart from snowboarding and office a whole year. But I think/hope that this work will pay off.

How was working on the movie? Were there some strange incidents?

Working on the video was/is quite intensive. Especially for me. I am responsible for a big part of the production, graphic design, direction and of course I was riding myself.

The whole season was full of strange incidents. But we have to say that altogether production went well and I think we all can be very satisfied. Of course you have to be quite spontaneous no matter if it is because of the weather, injuries, locked mountain passes or overnight stays in the car at minus 15 °C.

You say that your video is “different” to the others and has some sort of drive. What is it exactly that distinguishes your film from others?

I hope that it comes across and people recognize that we put in “loving attention to detail”. Just if you think of the music. Being “different” starts at the DVD graphics and ends with the last part of the movie.

It was our goal to portray the people not as the “super cool, awesome, whatever” image holders. We wanted to picture them as completely different. Just as we are in real life. I think being authentic is the secret.

What makes a really good video in your opinion?

Even if it is really hard but a video has to be some sort of “quirky” and as I said “different” from other productions. This “being different” can be triggered by several factors. However no such other elements should eever be used to conceal a lacking athletic performance.

It is important that all of the involved, so riders, filmers, musicians, illustrators, producers, PR people etc. should support the project with 100 %. At this point I would like to thank all of the supporters. Without their help, energy and emotion this project could have never been realized.

Which is your favorite part of the movie?

I don’t really have a favorite part. Each part has some elements I totally like. But I really like the intro and the last part.

What do you expect from the premiere on October 24th at the Volksgarten in Vienna?

I expect the pressure which I felt the last year to be relieved.

No, to be honest I have no clue. To speak absolutely freely I am really curious about people’s reactions. And I mean REALLY curious.

Where can the movie be bought? How do you distribute it?

The movie will be distributed over two ways: on the one hand via free online download on our Website and on the other hand the film (incl. a lot of good bonus material) will be added to the Blue Tomato goodie bag. Furthermore there will be some DVDs and Giveaways in every shop where you can buy LOVE stuff.

Closing question: What do you expect from the future? Are there further projects already planned?

I expect to keep well in future and that everybody I like is well off too. And of course I hope that I can reach self-fulfillment on the fields that I like.

There are already quite concrete plans for the future. But I’ll tell when the time has come. I like talking about things when they are ready and have some sort of surprise effect. That’s the reason why nobody should know how and what our movie will be about in advance

Trip to the Hintertux Opening

Thursday evening, two weeks ago, Franki, Jürgen, Alex, Lukas and me started our trip to the Hintertux Opening. Franki got some sweet apartment for us in Zell am Ziller. Props to Franki, the flat was amazing! Friday morning we headed towards Hintertux. First it seemed to be real foggy however on the glacier weather was ok. In the morning it was super icy but thanks to the sun and temperatures about 6°C it got slushy at noontime. The park offered a medium and pro kickerline, pipe, corner and a jib line consisting of a downbox, downrail, rainbow box, flat box, up box, curved box and pyramid box. You see there was something to shred for everybody.

Additionally you had the chance to test some new shredsticks of the upcoming season. E.g. there was Rome, Forum, Burton, Lib Tech, Nitro, Ride, Bataleon and many more. On Saturday and Sunday weather was great, there was not a cloud in the sky. It just felt a little like being on summer shred and especially at the corner some nice sessions were going on. At Saturday evening we went to the official Opening Party, was cool but a little overcrowded. Anyway Alex found out that the garbage bags were real comfortable… at least he claims that. Sunday morning we took the gondola to the glacier with a little hangover. But after some relaxing and a second breakfast we beat it and took some laps through the park. In the end we arrived back in Schladming about 9pm, real tired but with a big smile on our faces.

Cheers,
