Midway through its 9th European winter season, Volcom Stone’s PBRJ vessel has been sailing all over Europe before it arrives at its final port, where it’ll anchor up in Avoriaz (Harbor), France for the final PBRJ session on the 31 of March 2012. This’ll be the last long-lining festival of fun of the season, after 18 stops taking in the whole of Europa from Greece in the South to Finland in the North!

The top 5 anglers in every division at each stop qualify for the European PBRJ Championships in Avoriaz, France. So we will see some of the best up and coming jibbers from all European seas gathering for this exciting event, with tons of prizes to be reeled in and 12,000€ in prize money!

Check out videos, photos and reports of the 2012 European PBRJ season

As Volcom’s amateur contest, the goal of the PBRJ is to give something back to the kids. Beware of copies out there, this is the original! Mixing up the established contest format, they came up with something different. Rather than having three rails in a row, the Volcomites put them side-by-side to create a rail zone which boosts the energy level and fun nature of the contest by having everyone ride together, riding, hiking, and watching in a big group.

There are 4 divisions: Girls, 15 & under, 16 & over and Open. Winners from every division go home with loads of prizes while the Open division winners receive prizes as well as cold hard cash. The contest runs in a jam format so there are no scheduled runs – riders can hit each of the rails as many times as they want during their 20-minute heat. Judges only score landed tricks, so you don’t need to worry about falling. The event is absolutely free to enter, on a first come first served basis, and boasts tons of free prizes, free drinks, free food and Peanut Butter & Jam sandwiches! Also, Everyone who enters walks away with some prizes!

Volcom and Onboard has offered you the chance to win an all inclusive trip to Laax for the finals of the Peanut Butter & Rail Jam 2010, and here are the official results.

You guys have been pretty talented at naming the tricks well, as well as being very creative on other trick terms, to say the least. But the best of you all, who had the privilege to go and judge at the Euro finals, all expenses paid, was Max Wettstein from Germany. He even corrected some of the senior trickspellers around, and got 21 rights answers out of 24! His mistakes: on the second trick, Mark Swoboda is riding switch, and sorry but a ‘one foot indy tap’ is most commonly known as a Fast Plant… Anyways, congrats to him! We hope he enjoyed his crazy week-end in Laax with all the pros!

Here’s the list of the 4 other winners to win one year free subscription at Onboard, for showing us all their talents at spelling – or smelling trick names:

The ultimate showdown of the best European Peanut Butter & Rail Jam riders went down in LAAX, Switzerland.

More than a hundred snowboarders from more than 18 European countries made a pilgrimage to the Swiss Alps to attend to the event and battle for the prizes, honor and ransom. Local shapers did an amazing job dealing with the end of season warm temperatures and set the rails at the bottom of the slopes next to the Rock resort. This year European PBRJ Champs featured a down rail “the Pacific Union”, a mellow double kink “double colt” and a massive plastic tube alias “T.N.T.” stick; all rails were round ones, and that made a difference for riders only used to flat bars or boxes.

As soon as the rails were ready to practice everyone assaulted them, and riders quickly warmed up hiking back on the scaffoldings to get the necessary speed. Contest then started with the weisswurst and ribs fumet from the barbecue, and from midday til the end, every heat saw non-stop action. The whole event was full of energy, and lots of bandits went down in the shoot outs, but fortunately without any severe injury. And it is in the middle of whips, guns and lassoes that all the riders attacked for Victory.

We will not go into a trick list cause you better watch the clip to get an idea but some of the highlights were Jesse Augustinus masterizing the 15 and under division from qualifications to final, Girls charging hard in their qualification heat, impressing even our Judges-deputies such as rail expert Anton “Tonton” Holland with for example throwing perfects nollie back lips on the “Pacific Union” first try. Also, apparently next trend would be the small stance come-back, and there are less crazy spinners 450 ins- 450 outs but way more sexchanges and other swingswangs…

As our PBRJ/Onboard judge game winner Max Wettstein noticed, the train robbers got more creative on the “T.N.T.” stick while the day advanced, but got disappointed that nobody tried to hippie jump it…that would have won the Electric “Gooeyest Move of the day” award… Other than that Slovenians were some stand outs throughout the day and despite Norwegians doing really good in the qualifications, watch out for the eastern rail killers replacing the scandos in the future jibbing domination.

North America PBRJ sheriff Jeff Arnold had a couple of bandits down during the shoot outs but couldn’t do anything against Finnish sniper Sami Luthanen who robbed the bank, destroying everything in the qualifications and surgically striked during the last showdown into the first place in the Open division (900€), plus getting one of the two Electric award on the way (100€).

After a long day of action, showdown and serious chill under the sun, prize ceremony went down and prizes literally covered top 5 of each category, with Open division winners getting some money on top of that. A thousand Thanks to our friends in the industry for the product supportVans, Electric , Aerial7 , Onboard snowboarding magazine! and Nitro who gave out the prize of a brand new board to polish qualifier Kacper Kilar via the raffle.

In the end, Jesse, local Gina Somani, Thomas Coldebella, and Sami Luhtanen won their tickets and accommodation to compete in the world PBRJ champs in Mammoth mountain (USA) and have a shot at the 30 000$ prize money. Don’t miss the live Webcast on Saturday April 25 from 6pm to 2am (Paris time) on volcom.com

Everybody then enjoyed Swedish band GRAVEYARD playing some good rock’n roll at the Riders Palace and throwing a sick show for free until late night.

See you all next season for another good one!

Thanks to the good work of all Volcom staff, LAAX resort, all the shapers from LAAX, Jon and Henry MCing, Jarnold, Tonton, Pacome, Micha for bringing Graveyard, Vernon Deck and Miha Matvz for the pics, Chris Garside and Simpert for the clips.

But that’s not all folks! We also wanted to give you the results of our great Volcom/Onboard competition that run all the way during the PBRJ across Europe.

And here’s the list of the 4 other winners, who get one year free subscription at Onboard, for showing us all their talents at smelling trick names:

2nd Place: Alex Simopoulos

3rd Place: Aleksi Kemilainen

4th Place: Keijo Ruuven

5th Place: Noel Garsou

If you want to read all the trick names they put down, go here.
