As CAPiTA Snowboards’ new team flick, Defenders of Awesome, is one of our favourite shred flicks of the season we thought that being as we’re based in Munich we’d let others in the vicinity know that there’s the chance to peep the movie on the big screen on October 29. See you at the bar.

The movie’s worth seeing for Scott Stevens’ part alone, but there’s a bunch of other banging parts in there that’ll have you hooting, proper movie premiere-stylee. World premiere of TB20, Standard’s landmark release, goes off at the ‘best venue in the world’. Check the pictures – hell of a spot for a premiere…

Standard recently held the world premiere for TB20 at the ‘Snowboard on the Rocks’ event at Red Rocks in Morrision Colorado. The spot’s unreal and has some proper history having hosted bands from The Rolling Stones to The Beatles. If ever there was a spot for such a landmark premiere, this was it.

A crowd of over 7,500 people showed up to see the riders send it on the silver screen and meet them in person before and after. Dudes who showed up to party on were Kevin Jones, Sammy Luebke, Blair Habenicht, Mark Carter, Xavier De Le Rue, Lonnie Kauk and Mathieu Crepel. Standout moments were Halldor Helgason’s opener, Kimmy Fasani’s backcountry attack, the return of the original Totally Board rider Kevin Jones and his powder freeride assault including the triple flip, Gjermund Braaten kicker destruction and of course Mathieu Crepel’s closer with a solid mix of Freestyle riding ending with Big Mountain lines in Alaska. Xavier De Le Rue also got some of the biggest cheers when he rode down the ice water fall to end his part. That was pure madness.

Burton’s forthcoming shred flick looks like it’s gonna be pretty tasty if the teasers for Standing Sideways are anything to go by. So check this out, whack the dates in your iThing and prepare to send it at the premiere partys going down across Europe…

With serious cases of sick airness being reported around the globe, Burton Snowboards announced it is in full prep mode to host the world premiere of its new snowboard film, Standing Sideways, where else but in the ‘mile high’ city of Denver, Colorado on September 15th.

The very first showing of Burton’s new movie will take place in Denver at the legendary Ogden Theatre. It will be a jam-packed night of snowboarding’s best, starting with a red carpet lounge arrival of Burton riders as well as Burton Founder and CEO Jake Burton and some surprise special guests.

Right after the Denver premiere, some of the riders, including Mark Sollors, Danny Davis, Mikkel Bang, Mark McMorris, Kazu Kokubo, Jussi Oksanen and Terje Haakonsen, will head over to Europe where they will start the European leg of the tour in Antwerp, Belgium. The Burton Team will travel through Europe with a Standing Sideways tour bus to hit cities across the continent. Tour dates and details are below:

Our photo ed was on hand at the recent Euro Gap 3 world premiere in Helsinki and fired in these snaps of the show.

Although our Finnish friend Sami doubtless got too drunk to remember anything that went on, hence the lack of any report, he did have his iPhone with him and snapped a bunch of party shots for posterity before mailing them across with the words “Best Film Ever.” Almost as interesting as the shots of Finland’s finest throwing down the party hammers is that he’s finally bought Hipstamatic after hating on it for so long. The horror…

Welcome Home Vol. II is the second chapter of the Rip Curl riders’ adventures within their Search mission. The team went from Argentina (Matti Radaelli), Germany and Austria (Elias Elhardt), the German speaking corner of Switzerland (Martin Seiller) and finally Sweden with the legendary area of Riksgransen.

Last Thursday, Lausanne welcomed the first date of the European tour. “It was so great to see all those smiles” said Darius Heristchian after the first screening in front of 200 people. This year, Quality, Comfort and Fun are the main values Rip Curl try to share on the Welcome Home Tour. All the premieres will happen in cinemas, every guest will be served free drinks and the pro team will be in the attendance to answer your requirements concerning the making of.

This is how Olivier Pictet introduced the screening on Thursday night: “Tonight, we are doing something that no longer exists. Broadcasting a 35mm film has not been attempted for 10 years. But here it is… and I am sure it is going to blow you all away”.

Furthermore, they will set up a photo exhibition to entertain the crowd and feed the Welcome Home Concept. Main photographers Eric Bergeri, Jérome Tanon, Matthieu Georges and Rémi Petit selected their favorite action and lifestyle shots. This exhibition perfectly represents the amazing time we spent in the mountains, the laughs we shared and the awesome pow we hit!

The Homies crew will be headed to the beach on October 2nd (this Saturday) to premiere their new release, Homies 3, and to have a good old knees up too.

The premiere will take place in Safari Bar in Seignosse, where a good representation of the crew will rock up: Nico Droz, Pierre Rué and more…

Door open at 9pm, and the screening will start at 11.30pm, before the big Homies & Von Zipper party takes over with DJ Poska at the decks.

You see, last weekend they sent me to the Munich premiere of Absinthe’s new movie NowHere. I knew I was expected to take a couple of pictures, and I did. It only dawns on me now that I was supposed to write a lengthy review of the movie, too. I can’t dot it. I did not take any notes. I was semi-drunk. I will give you a two-paragraph summary instead. On a positive note this will save you from scrolling through four pages of senseless drivel.

Dan Brisse. Alive.

Well, as I said things went down in Munich, or in the cinema at the ‘Sendlinger Tor’ to be more specific. The place was packed with around 400 Absinthe fans, friends, and industry folks. Brusti introduced the crew and the riders present, namely Jules Reymond, Dan Brisse, and JP Solberg, and they stoked the crowd out with a classic product-toss/prize draw spectacle. Then lights went dark and they showed the controversial Nike Snowboarding ad (spoiler: Danny Kass gets devoured by Zombies) and a clip from tour sponsor Bench. And then it was all about the movie. There was no official party afterwards, but most people walked over to the obscure Ksar club, which is where the movie was discussed over a beer or three.

In terms of movie-making it was a classic Absinthe experience: The riding was top notch, the music once again not your everyday electro pop, the parts edited into each other with an excellent flow, and every now and then the Absinthe logo popped up to indicate some bonus section on the DVD (which was kind of weird, considering we were watching it in a movie theatre). Highlights included the shared Blauvelt/Müller pow fest, Bode Merrill’s part (including a one-footed AK descent and a back rodeo to backside boardslide), the girls section (composed of MFR and Annie Boulanger going bigger than any other girl), and Dan Brisse, who seemed to cheat death in more than just one situation and scored the well-deserved movie ender.

Party!

Add the usual suspects Wolle Nyvelt (with an unseen mastery of his noboard game), Gigi Rüf (with a great yet small part due to his commitments to his many other movie projects), Jules Reymond, Blair Habenicht, Lucas Debari, Sylvain Bourbousson, Cale Zima (adding some mandatory tight pants steeze), Freddie K, Bjorn Leines, Terje and the YES crew, and mix it with some great footage from a Kamchatka trip and a revisiting of Chad’s gap, and you get way more than you would have hoped for. If anything you might moan about a personal dislike of the soundtrack (which is what some people afterwards actually did – losers!) and maybe the fact that you weren’t blown out of your seat from seeing something totally unexpected. All things considered, though, this flick will make you want to go shredding, and that’s what it’s all about!

Well, I said two paragraphs. That’s it, I won’t stretch your attention span of a five-year-old any longer. Go buy and watch the movie, it is one of the best you will get to see this year! And if you have seen it yourself, use the comments section to tell us what you thought!
