The first ever World Snowboarding Championships has come to a close and the inaugural winners crowned. If you weren’t glued to the idiot box watching the live stream, watch how it went down. If you were, relive all the action from the top 3 runs in each discipline.

Despite some lacklustre riding in the early rounds and the premature exit of some big names, the latter stages of the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo’s Vinterpark certainly kicked up a gear. Although the riding level in the slopestyle was clearly affected by the bulletproof conditions, Chas Guldemond and Spencer O’Brien both stomped heavy runs to take the win on their last runs, while the pipe – described by more than one person as the ‘best halfpipe ever’ – was hands down insane. Kelly Clark was pushed hard by young Spaniard Queralt Castellet but her monster front 10 sealed the deal, while Iouri Podladtchikov‘s heavy doubled up tech edged out the ridiculous height Matt Ladley was sending his rotations. The quarterpipe was great to see after a hiatus of a couple of years, and Olivier Gittler took the overall title, with Kim-Rune Hansen winning best trick and some old guy called Terje bagging the highest air.

Enjoy all the video highlights of the runs that mattered.

All results & video highlights of the Women's Superpipe event at the 2011 Winter X Games Europe in Tignes/France.

Here are some news from the Winter X Games Europe 2011. For those of you who did not follow the action through the official live webcast (or did not speak any French, which is sadly required to follow the action), here’s a slightly convoluted wrap-up of yesterday’s haps. The press release did not contain any pictures, but we found a dodgy ftp link and downloaded all relevant videos. Here you go…

Immediately after the Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe finals that saw Kelly Clark win, the Winter X Games schedule carried on, with the Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe elimination round. This evening the American rider Greg Bretz finished first of the qualifying event in front of a crowd of 14700 spectators.

Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe finals
Kelly Clark (USA) wins her 9th medal and her 4th Gold medal at the Winter X Games. Before this Kelly Clark had already won more medals than any other woman in snowboarding at the X Games, with 8 medals including 3 in gold. Thursday night in Tignes, she added a fourth gold to her exceptional list of medals. Kelly did this only two months after her victory in Aspen where she was the first woman to land a 1080 during a contest. With an Olympic victory in 2002 in the USA and the Dew tour crown this year, nothing seems to get in the way of the snowboarder from Mount Snow in Vermont.

In Thursday’s final in Tignes, Kelly’s first run was to be her best one with a score of 92.66. Her fellow countrywoman Hannah Teter (Olympic champion in 2006) clinches the silver (with 91 points) and her 6th Winter X Games medal. Whereas Queralt Castellet, the Spanish rider that finished third, got her first Winter X Games medal. Sophie Rodriguez, the French rider that finished in third place last year, ends up in 6th place (out of 12) with a score of 77 points for her best run.

We’re not going to lie: We weren’t there and we didn’t watch the comp. However, through countless interviews with riders every European is familiar with the Dew Tour: Whenever asked about their season plans every decent snowboard pro will list a number of more or less interesting events ending on “…and the Dew Tour, of course.” This makes it clear that the event series is a big deal. In fact it is so big that Nike 6.0 have gone through the rare process of spending some money and turned the Breckenridge stop into the “Nike 6.0 Open“. In a nutshell: Torstein Horgmo and Jamie Anderson won the slopestyle, and Louie Vito and Queralt Castellet (go Europe!) took the halfpipe victory. We don’t have any pictures, but we have a video of Marc McMorris’ slopestyle run!

Put in elaborate press releases things look like this:

SNOWBOARDERS LOUIE VITO AND QUERALT CASTELLET WIN SUPERPIPE FINALS AT THE WINTER DEW TOUR’S NIKE 6.0 OPEN AT BRECKENRIDGE SKI RESORT

Olympians Louie Vito, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Spain’s Queralt Castellet won the men and women’s snowboard superpipe finals today at the Winter Dew Tour’s Nike 6.0 Open. The best snowboarders in the world battled it out on Breckenridge Ski Resort’s brand-new 22-foot superpipe, which debuted live on NBC.

Vito, age 22, won the first final of the season with tricks including a front double ten, cab double ten and a crippler, for a top score of 90.25. Steamboat Springs, Colo.-native, Matt Ladley, age 19, came in second with a 75.00 and Greg Bretz, age 19 of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., followed behind in third with a 73.75.

“I like contests, I like the pressure and I like having to do it right then and there. I feel pretty good after today, but it’s definitely a challenging position,” said Vito. “Killington’s a whole new day, a whole new contest, and I’m going to have to be on it if I want to stay on the podium.”

In the women’s snowboard superpipe final, 21-year-old Castellet took the top podium spot for the second consecutive year at the Winter Dew Tour’s season-opening event in Breckenridge. Castellet’s winning run included a back 3, front 9, back 3 grab, front 5, back 5 and a front 7 for a top score of 85.25. Elena Hight, age 21 of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., placed second with an 80.50 and defending Dew Cup Champion Kaitlyn Farrington, age 21 of Sun Valley, Idaho, rounded out the podium in third with a 74.25.

“I’m very excited because I couldn’t land the first run so for the second run I had a lot of nerves and a lot of pressure to land it,” said Castellet. “I did it, and I’m so happy.”

The four-day competition is the first of three stops on the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour featuring men and women’s snowboarding and freeskiing disciplines. The Nike 6.0 Open will conclude tomorrow with the snowboard and freeski slopestyle finals for both men and women.

Horgmo secured a winning score of 96.50 during his first run, which included a frontside noseblunt slide to fakie, a switch frontside double cork 10 and a switch backside 9. Canadian-born Mark Mcmorris, age 17, came in second with a 93.75 and 23-year-old Chas Guldemond of Reno Tahoe, Nev., placed third with an 88.50.
