What do you do when the mountain is closed on a contest day? If you are Ty Walker, Jenny Jones, Basa Stevulova, Kirby Kelly, Danger Dave and Aimee Fuller and you are at the Roxy Chicken Jam in Mammoth Mountain you search for the right spot and then launch yourself into a nice huck fest.

Unfortunately it is really true: the only 6Star TTR event just for girls in Europe, the Roxy Chicken Jam, is canceled. We’re not only sad to miss out on one of the best parties of the whole season, but also because this event was a vital part of the girls scene and the progression of female riding. Once again it’s lacking funds that account for this rather tragic turn of events, as according to Roxy’s official statement the main co-sponsor withdrew from the event.

The Chicken Jam has been on the women’s TTR event calendar since 2004 and has become known for its fun atmosphere and progressive riding.  The event has showcased the rising level of women’s riding over the years and will be missed from the TTR calendar.

Rukajärvi crowned 09/10 women’s Swatch TTR World Champion after 6-Star Roxy Chicken Jam

The 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam slopestyle and halfpipe finals both went down today under sunny skies at Mammoth Mountain in California and Enni Rukajärvi (FIN) has been officially declared the women’s Swatch TTR World Snowboard Champion for the 2009/2010 season. Sina Candrian (SUI) was able to post a sixth place finish in the slopestyle finals to defend her World No. 2 position and Sarka Pancochova (CZE) squeezed in a fifth place in slopestyle to finish her season in World No. 3. All three of the women mentioned above will go home with some hefty prize money and will also receive automatic invites to all major TTR events for the 2010/2011 season.

A Jam–Packed Day Full of Action: Slopestyle Finals

The day began with slopestyle finals in the morning under the blazing California sunshine making the course a little bit slow, but the ladies powered through the slush and put on a great showing. The slopestyle course is larger than in years past and the riders were loving the setup that consisted of a 65-foot jump, 55-foot jump, a rail section, pole jam and finished with a 50-foot kicker. It was American rider, Jamie Anderson, who had the speed and style on the course and was able to throw down a run that included a backside 540, switch backside 540 and a Cab 540 mute to take the top spot of the day. On the TTR side of things, Enni Rukajärvi came in ninth place, but that was enough to keep her in the TTR World No. 1 spot. Sina Candrian was able to place sixth in slopestyle to keep her World No. 2 position. And, Sarka Pancochova (CZE) took the fifth place finish to put her in the World No. 3 spot. However, the ladies still had halfpipe finals ahead where some riders had a chance to shake up the final TTR results.

There was a two-hour break after the slopestyle competition wrapped up before the halfpipe finals kicked off. Over the past couple of years, the Chicken Jam was running an 18-foot pipe and the ladies were definitely stoked on the 22-footer being used for this year’s event. It was Kelly Clark (USA) putting up her signature huge airs and smooth spins to take the top spot for the day in the pipe. Japanese rider, Rana Okada, was also going big and took the third place spot and Elena Hight (USA) rounded out the podium in third.

With none of the riders on the pipe podium in contention for a top TTR Tour finish, Enni Rukajärvi was able to clinch the TTR World Champion title at the close of the Chicken Jam with Candrian officially finishing in World No. 2 and Panchochova in World No. 3. Rukajärvi was beyond excited with her win saying, “I feel awesome. I am so happy and stoked and also surprised. I did not expect to be Tour Champion at all at the beginning of the season.” With her TTR Tour Champion title win, Rukajärvi will take home a cool $50,000, Candrian will be awarded with $25,000 and Pancochova will walk away $15,000 richer.

With men’s TTR World Champion crowned, all eyes are on the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam taking place at Mammoth Mountain, California from March 26th to March 27th, 2010.

This is the last major Swatch TTR Tour stop for the women and will be the event that will decide who claims the women’s 2009/2010 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Champion title. After some top-notch riding at the US Open last weekend there were drastic changes in the TTR ranking that has setup opportunities for a few women to take the TTR Champion title and one of the Top 3 final positions.

It All Comes Down to Eight Ladies Who Have a Shot at the 09/10 Title
It has been a long season packed with events around the globe. There are only eight out of the women set to compete at the Roxy Chicken Jam who have strong enough TTR results in both slopestyle and halfpipe to take home the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR World Champion title. After a great showing at all major slopestyle events this season, young Finnish rider and current TTR World No. 1, Enni Rukajärvi, will need to defend her tour lead with two good results in Mammoth. Hot on Rukajärvi’s heels is Swiss rider, Sina Candrian, who has an opportunity to pull ahead of Rukajärvi if she can put down some good runs in the halfpipe. Norwegian rider, Lisa Wiik, has been having a good season and has the well rounded skills in both halfpipe and slopestyle to make some moves this weekend for a shot at the tour title. Known for her smooth style and large airs, Sarka Pancochova (CZE), will be in attendance and is sure to be making a run for the top spot in the TTR world ranking list. Other riders scheduled to be in Mammoth for the Chicken Jam who also have a fighting chance at the TTR World Champion title include Ursina Haller (SUI), Shelly Gotlieb (NZL), Kjersti Ostgaard Buaas (NOR) and 07/08 TTR World Champion, Jamie Anderson (USA).

The Stage is Set for An Interesting Showdown in Sunny California
With the Swatch TTR World Champion title still open for multiple riders to claim, it’s going to be a nail-biter of a weekend in Mammoth. The forecast is calling for sunny skies and talented riders from around the world will be in attendance as these women compete for some serious cash. Not only will the top finalist/tour winner claim the prestigious TTR World Champion title and $50,000 USD, but the ladies who are lucky enough to secure the World No. 2 and World No. 3 positions will be awarded a part of the $200,000USD TTR prize purse. All riders who finish in the TTR Top 3 will also receive automatic invites to all major TTR events in the 2010/2011 season.
