The dudes at the World Snowboard Tour have partnered up with Swatch to produce this 7-part documentary series focussed on the history of competitive snowboarding. Pretty interesting stuff, check it…

Shred documentaries filled with archive footage seem all the rage these days – this series follows hot on the heels of burn’s nostalgia-heavy We Ride – The Story of Snowboarding – and this is no bad thing. It’s always rad to dip into snowboarding’s history to see how far we’ve come and also throw some high fives to the guys and girls responsible for pushing the boundaries. With this season’s World Snowboard Tour almost a wrap, the crew have launched this 7-part series charting the evolution of contest riding from the titular straight line runs to today’s mind melting barrage of hyper spinning.

This first episode looks at the inception of the first shred contests over in the US back in the 80s, spotlights the likes of Jake Burton, Tom Sims, Craig Kelly and Terry Kidwell, and is, to coin a phrase from a magazine of the time, absolutely radical.

The Shaun Palmer biopic has finally been made, and received accolades at the XDance Festival, but they’re looking for donations to a Kickstarter fundraiser to help get the movie out to more people via DVD. Check the trailer and the info you’ll need if you want to help out…

Palmer’s one of the legends of the sport, and from the teaser it looks like this’ll be a no-holds-barred account of the career of one of snowboarding’s biggest characters. As much as Palmer was a hellraiser, he was also a supremely talented and stylish rider who also possessed and unquenchable thirst for winning. And he also excelled at several other sports too – there’s a good argument for him being one of the greatest athletes ever.

Here’s the lowdown from the production company’s mouth…

Chainsaw Productions is looking for support to get Shaun Palmer “The Miserable Champion” movie out to the masses. The film is currently finished with some final production, music and stock footage issues to be completed. Please support this film, so we can generate enough funds to cover the final production costs. We feel this is a story that must be watched to fully understand the accomplishments that have taken place over the lifetime of Shaun’s life. Chainsaw Thanks all of the people past, present and beyond that have helped this film become a reality from support and goodwill. Special Thanks goes to Contour for the POV Cameras for this Kickstarter Fund Raiser. $10,000 is the bare minimum; our goal is $20,000, THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

The Miserable Champion is a real portrait of one of the most notorious athletes of all-time, action sports hero Shaun Palmer. This tell-all movie reveals Shaun from birth to the near fatal overdose to his comeback to make the 2006 Olympic Team. Shaun Palmer – The Miserable Champion is an intense look at Shaun’s ups and downs, background of growing up with no father figure, evolution from rags to riches. Shaun’s story is like no other athlete’s in history. He has been at the top of Snowboarding, Mountain Biking, Skiing and Motocross. USA Today asks the question “Is This The World’s Greatest Athlete?”

Welcome to what may be turn out to be a one-off featurette, or could possibly evolve into a weekly regular. Yep, we’re looking back into snowboarding’s ancient past to bring you a video produced before some of you were even born – Creatures of Habit 2.

Here’s the deal. It’s a rambling tale, but we’re gonna tell it anyway.

In Iceland, it is apparently National Beer Day or something. Our buddie Geiri at Atikin tweeted something like ‘BEER BEER BEER BEER’, which we found amusing and thus re-tweeted. Next up some French lass responded with a link to Gang Green’s awesome punk tune, Alcohol, which had us thinking ‘Now what the hell shred film from back in the day was THAT in?’ The call went out on Facebook and a couple of likely lads confirmed what we were thinking – that it was used in an early Fall Line Films movie, one of the Creatures of Habit series that anyone over the age of 30 might remember fondly. So then we YouTubed, and found Creatures of Habit 2, a film from 1992. We watched a bit of us and were reminded of the days when snowboarding was actually cool, so we thought we’d share the rad with y’all…

Sometimes you have to sit back and admit that the internet ROCKS.
