Our wrap-up of 2011′s most popular video content on our site concludes with the two most viewed pages. Unsurprisingly there’s a horror slam in there. Surprisingly, the top spot went to a video that’s not strictly speaking snowboarding. Have a look at what they were.

2nd – Near Death: Darrah Reid-McLean’s Minnesota Fence Slam

Oh sweet baby Jesus. To this day we have no idea how Peep Show rider Darrah Reid-McLean was able to walk after folding her back like a taco on that rail, let alone be able to ride again last season to put down a solid part in Winter Wars. Though we posted it in March and have seen it several times since, watching this still makes us weep.

1st – Mindblowing Snowskating Video

And number 1 in our chart of the most popular videos posted to the Onboard website in 2011 is… erm… not even a snowboarding video. But the machine doesn’t lie and it is certainly a mindblowing clip showing some full-on legit snowskating. We’d imagine there’s gonna be a couple of people with one of these in their lockers for bad weather days this winter.

That is all, thanks for your attention. We hope you SEND IT tonight and have an awesome 2012, despite what the Mayans and mentals would have you believe.

We have just finished picking our jaws off the floor after watching this team video from Ambition Snowskates. We used to think of snowskating as a novelty that people passed bad weather days with in 2001. No more. This is legit. Bow down.

We figured there might be some sort of mild resurgence of snowskating when we saw this video back in spring of Alan Gerlach making his snowskate sing. That was on one of the ones with the snowblade thing on the base, but these guys from Ambition Snowskates appear to have made a ski-less version that manages to get the grip on the topsheet and base spot on for essentially making a full-on legit skateboard for snow.

Flip on, flip off, back lips, gnarly transfers… the litmus test of snowboard shots is often ‘if skateboarders could do it then it’s not proper enough for snowboarding’. Now we can add snowskating to that quality control. Awesome.

We’re having a good ol’ mass debate here in the office about whether snowskating was lame or not, but one thing’s for sure – this guy can certainly make one sing. Check it.

Snowskating. Remember that? At the dawn of the new millennium it was hotter than Megan Fox with brands popping up left, right and centre and guys having sections in their video parts solely on the snowskate. Then, like Kaiser Soze, they vanished.

Some of us here think it always looked a bit awkward, whereas others remember snowskating fondly as a fun way to piss around on a bad weather day. But whatever your opinion, we defy you not to be blown away by the Alan Gerlach guy. Nollie back lips? Front board pole jams? Solid footplants? WTF?
