The Czech scene’s season ender-bender went off as usual in Spindleruv Mlyn, with a Mexican theme, a killer park setup, some solid riding and Czech-style partying. Check the video…

The event is over. The sixth edition of BURTON ŠPINDL SPRING SESSIONS brought crazy weather, high quality riding and a lot of spectators creating the atmosphere not only at the slopes, but also at the parties and concerts in party tent. Tomáš Tuzar /CZE/, Hans Kestila /FIN/ and Roman Dlauhý /CZE/ were honored as the best riders of the event.

The biggest Czech snow resort – Skiareál Špindlerův Mlýn – had been attacked by participants of BSSS from the middle of the week, as accreditation began. This year, they had more than 120 riders and the same number of media represents from various European countries as well as from exotic Lebanon.

Thursday was the first day of the event and the riders competed in big air with SKULLCANDY BIG AIR FORTUNE. The system of this competition was that each of the riders gets drawn a trick from the Wheel of Fortune, which they have to perform afterward. From the starting list, the first two places were taken by riders from Finland, the bronze being won by the Czech competitor. After the day program, Red Bull i- Battle was the main attraction in party tent …

Friday and Saturday had a heli buzzing the course filming, so the riders were training and doing their best to get some points for overall results. For Friday, there was not any official contest planned, for Saturday, they’d prepared the BURTON KEMP PUBLIC JAM and ČESKÁ POJIŠŤOVNA CORNER SESSION. Public interest in the public contest was huge, there were more than 100 participating riders and according the information from the judges, some of them are just a step from becoming the professionals.

The weather conditions did not allow the corner session on Saturday, so it was moved over to Sunday which was definitely a good decision. The snow conditions were excellent, so the riders had enough speed to send it long and high and therefore to show their best tricks. From the starting list, the best were Jan Nečas in “best trick” and Jan Zajíc in “best air”, each of them won 1.000 EUR from the main partner of the contest, Česká Pojišťovna.

As soon as the ČESKÁ POJIŠŤOVNA CORNER SESSION was over, the riders, media and spectators join the prize-giving ceremony, which was held right at the end of the snowpark. Based on their performance over the four days, and also according to the performance in each contest, the following riders were awarded…

Last weekend on the slopes of Špindlerův Mlýn in the Czech Republic the 2011 Burton Špindl Spring Sessions well and truly kicked off.

Last weekend on the slopes of Špindlerův Mlýn in the Czech Republic the 2011 Burton Špindl Spring Sessions well and truly kicked off.

Saturday as the third and main and the most important day of Burton Špindl Spring Sessions brought the clouds, more than 5.000 spectators concentrated around the finish of the main line, a snowboard race for the general public and a Corner session for accreditated riders. In each discipline, there was a ranking of riders which put them into the order not only in each discipline, but also in overall ranking made by jury consisting from media representatives, snowboard professionals and the snowboard riders themselves.

Let’s check the first day and the snowboard wheel of luck – Skullcandy Trick Countdown. In the competition, there were more than 30 riders in the beginning of the contest. The winner, Ville Uotila, threw down a 1080 and beat his Finish mate Jeppe Ronti, who managed all tricks except for the backflip and Michal Ligocki from Poland, who only didn’t land his 1080.

The final order of Skullcandy Trick Countdown:

1. Ville Uotila – FIN

2. Jeppe Ronti – FIN

3. Michal Ligocki – POL

4. Tomáš Tuzar – CZE

Corner Session was the second main discipline counted towards the final ranking of the riders. The Corner was placed at the end of the main line and was super huge with its 12 meters height and 25 meters length. It was definitely a good place to watch the competition as there were many different vertical and horizontal rotations jumped by wide range of riders in excess of more than eight meters. In the end, the best air was performed by Ville Uotila, and the best overall impression went to Jan Zajíc.

There was a Freeride.cz Public Spring Sessions Jam at Burton easy park Hromovka which is a regular part of the event every year. This competition is dedicated to amateur riders, who are keen on snowboarding but not as good as going to the regular park with big jumps and kickers with high difficulty. The results we not included in the overall ranking.

Best rider: Tomáš Raiser

Best girl: Kamila Vlčková

Best junior (10-15 let): Lukáš Pobořil

Best kid (do 10 let): Kristián Salač

The overall ranking contains from Friday´s Skullcandy trick Countdown and Saturday´s Corner session, but the most important for the final order was the overall impression from all disciplines and from the main line, which was long about 800 meters and which includes big jumps, kickers, a line for jibbing and a final huge corner. As the organizers and riders agreed, the snowpark was really well prepared and it was possible to perform a big number of different tricks at a high level. “We were building the snowpark for more than a week and we are happy that it was appreciated by the riders and by the crowd, which counted nearly 12.000 people in the three days,” said Petr Najman, the head of organization team. Ville Uotila had the same feeling, as he said that it was really nice and relaxing to be a part of this competition, enjoying the friendly atmosphere, spring weather and nice crowd of the people. “I was here for the second time and I really like it. For the three days, I was concentrated on sport, now I am looking forward to the party,” said Ville.

Special Prices: Overall results:

1. Pepe Samek – CZE 1. Ville Uotila – FIN

2. Roman Dlauhý -CZE 2. Tomáš Tuzar – CZE

3.Wojtek Pajak – POL 3. Jeppe Ronti – FIN

4. Hans Kestila – FIN Best girl: Anja Štefan – CRO

5. Filip Gutwirth – CZE Best junior: Dušan Kříž – CZE

6. Michal Ligocki – POL

The last day of the event is a Sunday. Usually, the people chill out, do some rides in spring snow, take in the sunshine and relax after the party night.

Petr Horak, a 19-year-old Czech rider from Kladno won the Quiksilver Snowjam 2011. Petr is the first Czech winner in the history of the contest. He scored most points of all the finalists for his first excellent ride in the pipe then on rail and finished with a perfect backside double cork 1260 on the big air jump. This success has bettered his chances to participate in the World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo 2012. “The World Championships is the most important event to me and that is why I train so hard now. Winning the Quiksilver Snowjam showed that also I can win an international competition, which I did not expect. The atmosphere throughout the day was great, the audience cheered, I really enjoyed it.” commented Peter on his success.

The second place went to another Czech rider: Tomas Tuzar’s score was only 0,6 less than the winner. Finn Nuutti Niemela took third place and was most successful rider from numerous Scandinavian teams who took part in the Quiksilver Snowjam this year.

Marius Otterstadt.

Nice sunny weather attracted over 3,000 people for the finals. “The contest turned out fantastic, I am glad that the young generation of riders were on the winning league throughout the contest. The evening show Nutcase Best Trick was seen by the largest audience in the history of Quiksilver Snowjam.” said organizer and rider Martin Cernik.

The crowd.

A live concert of the band Sunshine was followed by the popular Nutcase Best Trick session. The slopes in Spindleruv Mlyn were lit up and riders gave their best on a big air jump. Finnish rider Tero Poikajarui took home the best style trick for his amazing backside 540 shifty. The most technical trick of the night was the back double cork 1260 by overall winner Petr Horak.

Czech winner Petr Horak.

After the Nutcase Best Trick session, riders and audience enjoyed a live concert of the and Bug’n'Dub. The Snowjam Party then continued in the music club Dolska till early morning hours where Bounce Bounce, DJs Friky & DJ Flux, Robot and Ladida performed.

Our friends from Free Magazine asked us to put this up, and knowing that they rip up mad stuff over there we will gladly do so. You’re in or close to the Czech Republic and are free this weekend? Then head over to Špindlerův Mlýn and take part in this thing. Sounds like a great gig. And it is presented by Martin Černík, the Czech Shaun White…

Quiksilver Snowjam 2011 is literally behind the door, the best and the biggest snowboard show of the domestic season is taking place in Ski resort Špindlerův Mlýn this Friday. The show starts on Thursday, March, 3rd with the official training on the slopestyle track, which will include halfpipe (U ramp), rail and big air. The chance to qualify from Friday qualifying round is then opened mainly for universal riders, who managed all the above mentioned disciplines. Audience will then, on Saturday, March 5th see the ten qualified riders in semifinal and final rides accompanied by the invited professional riders from all over Europe.

The organizers were promised participation from Norwegian, Finnish, Swiss and Italian riders, among whom will be able to see e.g. the participants of last year competition Marius Otterstad or Thomas Franc. Big star will be for sure Ulrik Badertscher from Norway who is in top form and “killing” every contest this season. Czech Republic will be represented by Nan Nečas, second from last weeks 4*TTR Snowboard Fest event in Slovakia. Also Martin Černík will not be missing, again in the double- role of a rider and an organizer.

“The preparation of this year is really demanding, but Snowjam will be fun and I can´t wait to ride on the best freestyle track in the Czech Republic. We could see a great progress in freestyle snowboarding this year and the new generation of riders moved the tricks into the next level. Therefore, except the standard tricks we can be looking forward to see the newest hit, so- called double cork (double rotation around the vertical and horizontal axis) from not only the international professionals but also Czech riders!”

However with the Saturday final this show of the best snowboarding is not, by far, over yet. Quiksilver Snowjam will then continue by the evening Snickers Nutcase Best Trick – the exhibition which will take place on the big air where riders will try to show the most difficult and best tricks in two categories „Style“ and „Technical“.

Snowjam is not only a competition where riders compete for the glory and favor of fans, they also compete for 100.000 CZK prize money, game console Nintendo Wii and many other prices.

The biggest party on the snow

Quiksilver Snowjam will not be only about top snowboarding, riders and visitors will be warmed-up by the interesting musical program. This year we prepared evening events in the center of Špindlerův Mlýn in the music club Dolská.
Friday evening will start at 8pm with the projection of a movie „Aljaška v prašanu“, describing the free-riding trip to Alaska with Martine Černík, Tomáš Kraus, Michal Novotný and Robin Kaleta. For the rest of the evening the party will be accompanied by DJ Jorgos & DJ Flux.
Saturday will not only belong to the DJs , but also to music bands. On the outdoor stage at the bottom of the track in Svatý Petr, from 6pm we can see the popular band Sunshine and from 8.15 pm you can dance on snow with Bug`n`Dub. Snowjam party will start from 9pm im music club Dolská, where there will play Bounce Bounce, DJ Friky & Flux, DJ Robot and DJ Ladida on two separated stages on two floors.

You definitely will not be bored in between the competition rounds, Quiksilver Snowjam partners prepared a varied program for the visitors. You will be able to try on the current best models of snowboards for free from American brands Lib Technologies, GNU and Roxy, which have been already designed for season 2012. For the creative visitors we prepared Roxy art tent, where for each purchased T-shirt you will get the second peace for free and you can designed yourself.
