The Time Machine got a little waylaid of late, but it’s back with a vengeance this week as it unearths this killer full movie from the year 2003 – Forum, Jeenyus, Foursquare and Special Blend’s classic, Video Gangs. Peep it.

After a couple of MDP-produced team movies, Forum and co. hired Sean Johnson (previously of Wildcats fame) to produce Video Gangs. As well as having the regular roster of Forum über pros like Bjorn Leines, Devun Walsh, Joni Malmi (though no JP Walker as, rumour had it, he’d signed a deal to only film with Mack Dawg), Video Gangs also included Jeenyus riders (RIP Jeenyus, you were awesome) Eddie Wall, Andreas Wiig and Chad Otterstrom, and also introduced the world to a young Finnish rookie fresh off the production line – Lauri Heiskari. In addition to all this, it also inspired a hack on the internet to write a paragraph with an excess of parentheses in it nearly 8 years later.

That being said, this sure takes us back. Enjoy.

The Time Machine stomped back in its rightful spot this week and brought with it a part from the man, the myth, the dude with one of the three definitive versions of the Method… Mr Jamie Lynn.

We take it back to 99 for this week’s flashback, and whack up one of the handful of riders who could be truly said to have defined an era in snowboarding. Lynn’s style was – and is – legendary and his approach to the game dovetails with most people’s opinion of what snowboarding’s truly about.

Enjoy the man sending it.

This week’s time travel arrives on Friday, rather than Tuesday. Hey, navigating this space-time continuum thing ain’t no cakewalk and sometimes you’ll end up not quite where you want to. Oh well, at least you can enjoy Eero Ettala’s groundbreaking part from MDP’s Follow Me Around.

This has surely got to go down as one of the greatest movie parts of all time. Sure, Eero had had good parts before this but his part in MDP’s Follow Me Around was something else. From mini-shred, to solid-sized park wedges, to heavy backcountry action and gnarly urban, Eero crushed it all and cemented his reputation as one of the finest all-round riders of his or any generation.

The fact that he signed off with the first ever double backside rodeo 1080 was the icing on the cake, the tune was unexpected but worked perfect, and he even bagged so many bangers that season that MDP were able to cut together a fully legit B-roll part that made it into the DVD extras. If you don’t own this movie it’s worth hunting a copy down on eBay for Eero’s part alone…

It’s a classic for this week’s Time Travel Tuesday as Mark Frank Montoya – aka MFM – Gs up, Hos down his way through his part in Kingpin Productions’ Back in Black. Have a look…

For all his faux gangsta image and his bizarre new career as a guy who tells you how to make money, there’s no doubt MFM is the man. After all, the G thang was just a gag, some people are apparently into becoming RICH BEYOND THEIR WILDEST DREAMS!!!, and the fact is that he became one of the definitions of style in the sport for many years. He even got to a point where he didn’t even need to grab anymore (or spin for that matter – check the ollie at 1.22). MFM’s also a snowboarder who enjoys slashing skiers, and even without the aforementioned this would be enough for us to give him the thumbs up.

In this part from Kingpin’s early 2000′s release Back in Black, MFM lip syncs to Kool G Rap’s Thug for Life with mucho gusto. That set tongues wagging on its own, but there’s no denying the shred skills on show here either. The double kicker line at 2.09 and the double cliff clearance at 2.35 are our personal highlights, but there’s mo’ to be sho’. Click play.

This week the Machine heads back to the early 80s, piloted by our Photo Ed this time, to bring back perhaps one of the earliest snowboard clips out there. Ted Shred – aka the Shred Baron – razzes his way through Monashee pow and buzzes skitards. This is AWESOME.

We’d like to track this dude down and find out what he’s up to now. In fact, we might just have to do that for the print mag, but one thing’s for sure, this Ted Shred/The Shred Baron/Blake Barrymore fella killed it back in the early 80s on one of the first Burton Snowboards.

The speed he gets up to on what’s essentially a sledge with straps and a string is pretty sick, but when it comes time to buzz some powder 8-ing skiers… well, that’s when things get proper awesome. The sound effects are just priceless…

Our latest toe-dip into snowboarding’s past sees Jamie Lynn, Dave Downing and Noah Salasnek in their heyday. Check it out.

1996 was 15 years ago. Being that we’re all about triple corks and Olympic hoop jumping we were not even a drunken twinge in our fathers’ lederhosen back then; we have no idea what 1996 was like. Course not. Turns out a) there was snowboarding and b) it was awesome and here’s a triple part of radness from MDP’s Stomping Grounds that we absolutely did NOT watch over and over until the tape burnt out in the shop where we didn’t work after college. No sir.

Lynn, Downing and Salasnek were, according to our memor… er, Google, the reliable crew of go-to guys for progressive freestyle who would annually turn up in the Mack Dawg and Standard films and blow our minds. Or would have done it we weren’t so young and cool. Getme blud.

Enough of this yakking, watch the part.

Our Time Machine is back with a banger this week as it serves you up this meal of awesome – Joni Malmi’s part in 2003′s Videogangs. Flashback…

Videogangs was the Four Star distributions (them that held the strings to Forum, Foursquare, Jeenyus et al before they were absorbed by Burton) flick that his the shelves in 2003 and had some of the best riders on the planet on their roster. Joni undisputedly was one of ‘em, and this is his part from it.

Joni was kinda like the Eero Ettala of his time – Finnish and capable of holding it down from solid booters to dirty downtown with bags of style, as you’ll see from this part where he pretty much kills it all.

It’s a nugget of pure 18-carat gold that the time machine’s thrown up today – Johan Olofsson’s legendary part from Standard’s TB5 – AKA the best video part in the world ever.

Really, we should quit this series after posting Johan’s part from TB5 because, let’s face it, we’ll never post a better clip. Legend has it that the Standard Films guys were pretty impressed with the skills of this young Swedish buck called Johan. He was turning heads with his freestyle skills and on the off chance they offered him a spot on their annual AK trip to maybe get a shot or two to fill out a small part in their forthcoming film.

Johan seized the opportunity with both hands, went ballistic and wrote himself a page in snowboarding’s legend. Filmed in 1996, this part is still insane.

This week the time machine returns with boozing, puking, fighting, skating, drinking, and snowboarding. Oh yes, it’s the intro part to the first of the infamous series of Whiskey videos. You have been warned.

The exploits of Boozy the Clown and his cohorts have entered into snowboarding’s legend thanks to the Whiskey series of movies documenting their skills on snow- and skateboards… Hang on, scratch that – the riding was decent for the time but, really, what these films are remembered for is the debauched off-hill antics the crew got up to – people probably still have glass in their scalps from trying to do the Whiskey bottle smash. This was from when snowboarding was proper gnarly, so saddle up and enjoy the carnage…

Another classic Terje part – from his second ‘biopic’, The Haakon Faktor – is up in this latest Time Travel Tuesdays, which has time travelled to Wednesday this week. Hey, it’s time travel. It’s an imprecise science. This has stoked us the hell out on an otherwise dull-ass day in the office.

We are well aware of two things: 1) Today is Wednesday, not Tuesday. And 2) We featured Terje already a couple weeks back. We do not care. This is the man Haakonsen in his pomp and showing the world how mountains are supposed to be ridden. We have a sneaking suspicion that Nicolas Müller, Gigi Rüf and Jake Blauvelt may have watched this a couple of times when they were groms…
