After winning Olympic gold in Vancouver, Torah Bright immediately took a season off from competing to ride pow. Last season she dropped back in to doing a bit more kicker and pipe stuff as well as further developing her BC skills and this is her edit from the whole year. She is damn good.

To quote Bode Merrill in our upcoming interview, ” Torah Bright is doing stuff in the halfpipe that I would never even dream of being able to do on a snowboard.  She is the best in that arena, and I look up to her in halfpipe for sure. I wish I could do some of the stuff she does.”

What an interesting collaboration: Roxy teamed up with the Peepshow Films crew to produce an all-new approach to a girls’ snowboard web show. Here’s the ‘Wanderlust‘ teaser, featuring Torah Bright, Kjersti Buaas, Erin Comstock, Corinne Pasela, Robin van Gyn, Ty Walker and more.

What has Torah Bright been up to recently? Well, being the most popular Aussie snowboarder of all time, she had Snowpark NZ all to herself after it had closed for the public. Our friends from AussieSnowboard.com visited her, and they brought a camera.

1 Hey Torah, how’s your shoulder after the surgery last summer?

It’s perfect! Best thing I have done yet! I went for about 4 years with my shoulder dislocating every couple of weeks, now life is a walk in the park with that not happening!

2 But that wasn’t the only big thing, right…? 

There have been many wonderful things that have happened! Top of the list is marrying Jake Welch.

3 How many letters from heart broken teenage boys did you get after you
got married?

Haha… I got a few notes!

4 Are you going to become a Desperate Housewife now?

Being a wife is amazing, but I don’t think I’ll ever be a ‘desperate housewife’. Drop the ‘desperate’ and I’m happy for the title housewife!

5 Or rather practice the Triple Cork…? 

I’ll take wife over a triple cork. But double cork I would still like to work on!

6 You’ve already won so much stuff – TTR, X Games, Olympic Gold – which
title has the most value for yourself?

They all mean so much and represent different things! The TTR title was amazing because I love how at the end of the competitive season a rider can be titled World Champion and not just for being good at one discipline. It’s crowning a well-rounded rider!

7 Do you think you’ll want to defend your medal in Sochi 2014?

Yeah, why not?! I still want to progress myself as a snowboarder and this has that energy, so you’ll see me there!

8 What’s the most urgently missing thing in female snowboarding? If you could change one single thing in/about female snowboarding – what would that be?

Hmm, not sure on this one…

9 Anne-Flore Marxer started a petition for girls at Air&Style last year – would you participate and if yes, which trick would you send over that massive jump?

I personally feel that we as female snowboarders have some work to do to be ready to compete in such an event. 720s won’t cut it! We need 900s and above to be considered in competing in such an event.

10 Who’s gonna be the next big star in snowboarding?

Ty Walker and Kyle Mack.

11 How and where are you going to spend your summer? 

I spend my summers down in NZ and Australia and with a beach break somewhere in-between!

12 How many times do you punch your brother per training session?

HAHA! Well, if that was the case, Ben would be home right now… he does not take much crap!

13 If you could punch any person – who would you punch and why? 

Punching isn’t my style.

The crew – Torah Bright, Aline Bock, Lisa Wiik, Erin Comstock, Robyn van Gyn, Kjersti Buaas and co – toured the streets of the capital before beelining to the mountains to jib, slash, bonk and generally tear up the terrain there. Check it out.

This little edit by the Swatch TTR Tour tells the story of the 23-year old Torah Bright (AUS), one of the most successful and well-known female riders out there, who incidentally took the tour title in 2006/07 and has been paving the way for progression since she got on a board. In this video, Torah talks about her vision of the future for female snowboarding and also top riders like Cheryl Maas (NED) praise her skills. Without doubt one of the most progressive female snowboarders in the world, Torah goes on explaining how she got into practicing the Double Crippler in the pipe and her brother Ben, who has been coaching her for years, confirms his vision of Torah’s future in the forefront of the development of the sport. We’re sure work will go down a lot easier after such a kick start. Or maybe not…

For the second year running, Quiksilver and Roxy will be holding their Europe-wide ‘Quiksilver and Roxy Radar’ contest, which is all geared around finding the next Mathieu Crepel or Torah Bright.

To unearth these future champions, Quiksilver and Roxy have set up this contest, open to all young riders, boys and girls, between 8 and 14 years of age.

The goal? To bring the young new talents through the ranks and integrate them into the prestigious Quiksilver team, with a renewable one-year contract. The finalists will also win VIP access to the Winter X Games Europe. Held in Tignes, this is tone of the heaviest shred contest on the planet. They will also bag an invitation to a summer training camp.

Rookies amped on the idea will have to go through three stages of selection:


1) January 2011 – Web Pre selection

Around 50 of the riders will be chosen on the basis of their uploaded files, photos, videos of their best tricks
and a short biog, which must all be uploaded to www.quiksilver.com. Registrations will start in December.

2) February 2011 – European Rounds – ‘Happy Riding Days’

Six European stations are accommodating our ‘Happy Riding Day’ rounds at which the 50 pre-selected candidates will participate. During the Happy Riding Day, the kids must impress the judges and the godfathers of their sport with their tricks but also with their personality. Each one will feature in a video, which will be submitted to an internet vote and also to the stars of Team Quiksilver and Roxy. This will narrow the selection down to 18 finalists (12 Boys, 6 girls) to challenge for the final of the Quiksilver & Roxy Radar.

3) Final of the Quiksilver & Roxy Radar at the Winter X Games Europe

The final of the Quiksilver & Roxy Radar will run alongside the Winter X Games Europe (16-18 March) in Tignes. The 18 finalists will fight it out at an ultimate jam session under the watchful eyes of Mathieu Crépel, double Snowboard World Champion and Torah Bright, Olympic Snowboard Champion, among other high profile riders.

All will be invited to be VIP guests of Quiksilver and Roxy during the Winter X Games Europe along with their chosen coach but only the four winning finalists will receive their trophy from the hands of their idols, and the dream prize of one year’s sponsorship from Team Quiksilver or Roxy, and participation at a summer camp.
