World Rookie Finals In Ischgl

The World Rookie Finals have previously crowned a whole list of names that later went on to dominate the highest levels of snowboarding. So it would be worth remembering the names Jonas Bösinger and Katerina Vojackova, they’re going to start popping up all over the shop. Last week they took top honours in their age categories at the World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, where standards were ludicrously high. Just check the highlights reel – these kids are laying down runs that would have challenged at the X Games not all so long ago. And they’re not just hurling through the course, there’s style in there too. They’re 15 for flip sake. If rookies need doubles to get on the podium, it’s safe to say the future’s bright for slopestyle competition. Watch out for these guys at our Onboard Send Off Session very shortly.

2013 VOLKL WORLD ROOKIE FINAL RESULTS

- Jonas Bösiger and Katerina Vojackova are the 2013 World Rookie Champions -

A perfectly shaped Ischgl Snowpark hosted the most amazing challenge ever for the titles of 2013 World Rookie Champion. The level in the final was extremely high and all the riders pushed their limits starting from the early morning trainings with double to double, corks and huge back side rodeo from the first and second jumps. The competition format was judging in overall impression, with 3 run each rider, best run counted for the final ranking.

Among the male rookies Jonas Bösiger from Swiss resulted the best rider of the day and got the title of 2013 WSF World Rookie Champion with a run including Back 1080 Double Cork, Frontside 720, 50-50 backside 360 out on the pole kicker, huge Method on the hip, Backside boardslide and frontside 50-50 front 360 out on the multi jib obstacle. For the girls Katerina Vojackova from Czech Republic won the 2013 WSF World Rookie Champion title with huge Backside and Frontside 360, 50-50 Indy on the Pole-Kicker, Backside air on the hip, Backside Boardslide and Front-Tail slide to Fakie on the final jib obstacle.

In the male grom category Norwegian Isak Ulstein won with Backside720, Frontside 720, Backside Rodeo5, Halfcab mute, 50-50 to Backside Noseblunt and frontside 50-50 to frontside 360out, while Taelor Mattingley from USA was the best grom girl with Stalefish, Backside 360, Method, Frontside air on the hip, 50-50 and 50-50 nose slide in the jib area.

“I saw an incredible level of riding at today finals. I knew the rookies here were good, but I didn’t expect such an high level” said Air & Style founder Andrew Hourmont at the prize giving ceremony.”Some of this rookies already ride like Pros.” ended Andrew.

During the prize giving were awarded prizes for an overall value of 15.000€: 2 all inclusive trips to the 2013 Australian Rookie Fest in Tredboo, a wildcard to the next season Air & Style, a wildcard to the upcoming Red Bull Innsnowation in Val Senales, Italy, a filming session with Pirate Movie Productions, invitations to the Onboard Send Off Session photoshooting, many invitation to the 2014 World Rookie Tour events in Livigno, Monte Bondone and Ischgl, and many other prizes by the sponsor of the event Volkl, Pieps, Ischgl and Blue-Tomato.

Sven Thorgren & Celia Petrig Win 2012 World Rookie Finals

Sven Thorgren (SWE) and Celia Petrig (SUI) won the 2012 Protest World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, Austria, and were crowned WSF 2012 World Rookie Champions. It was the largest edition ever of the World Rookie Finals with more than 90 riders and 20 national team. Peep the video, shots and how it broke down…

Despite bad weather conditions it was possible to complete the event in Ischgl and to crown the WSF 2012 World Rookie Champions. Several program changes took place to deal with the heavy snowfalls and low visibility conditions, but at the end of the day all the riders were able to take 2 runs during the Rail Session on Friday, and one run in the slopestyle on Saturday.

Sven Thorgren from Sweden won the best male, while Celia Petrig the best girl: they both won title of WSF 2012 World Rookie Champions and get awesome prizes which will support their snowboard careers. Among the groms, the norwegian ripper Fridtjof Tischendorf was the male winner for the second time in a row, while swiss Romana Petrig was the best girl. The grom champions got “Golden Tickets” to enter every World Rookie Tour event in 2013 for free.

“I feel soo well, coudn’t be more happy!” said Sven Thorgren after the prize giving. “I want to say thank you to all the staff that organize these events, it was great to ride the Rookie Fests and it helps me a lot for my snowboard career. So, all you kids out there, keep riding the Rookie Fest events because they are awesome and they will help you in your career.”

Many other prizes were assigned to the top riders of the event: 2 all inclusive snowboard trip to Australia, a video shoot with the Pirate Movie Production, invitations to Onboard and Cooler photoshoots, 5 invitations to the 2013 Halfpipe Rookie Fest in Monte Bondone Italy, avalanche tranceivers by Pieps and many other goodies.

With the event in Ischgl the World Rookie Tour 2011/12 came to the end. Stay tuned for updates about the Summer and South Hemisphere rookie events startin next July: they will kick off the World Rookie Tour 2012/13!

Protest World Rookie Fest – Training Day Video

The crystal ball that is the Protest World Rookie is allowing us to snatch a glimpse of snowboarding’s future once again in Ischgl right now, and the crew have just dropped this edit of the action from the training day. Check the edit.

The training day of the 2012 Protest World Rookie Finals couldn’t be better with a sunny day, blue sky, a lot of powder and a perfectly shaped snowpark.

All the riders enjoyed their first day on the mountain fine-tuning their runs for the qualification heat. The set up consist of 3 big table top with double jumps, a corner fun box obstacle and a big jibbing area at the end of the slope.

20 Snowboard Rookie Teams from all over the world have landed in Ischgl, Austria, for the 4Star 2012 Protest World Rookie Finals, which is going down from April 11-15. The WRF is the most important youth snowboard event of the season where the yearly WSF World Rookie Champions titles will be awarded.

England, France, Canada, Rumania, Italy, Czech Republic, Japan, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Polland, USA, Germany, The Nederlands, Slovenia, Austria, Russia, Australia and Andorra are the national teams confirmed for the 2012 Protest World Rookie Finals: almost 100 rising stars from all over the world will face off in Ischgl for a slice of the 30.000€ prize purse.

Among the many prizes there will there will be invitations to Onboard and Cooler photoshootings to offer the winners a chance to get their first international picture published.

“We are exhited to host again this incredible event in Austria” stated Meinhard Trojer, WRT organizer and WSF board of director. “Every year we offer the partecipants a unique program packed of lifestyle activities and we have the honor to see the future stars of snowboarding before they start to shine”.

What would have been the winning run at the US Open just a couple of years ago is now good enough to land you, maybe on the podium of the World Rookie Finals. This WSF event is such a good thing, we even threw a full-on Onboard photoshoot for the winners into the pot!

The 4Star Protest World Rookie Finals are finally concluded: Emil Andre Ulsletten from Norway and Katarzyina Rusin from Poland conquered the World Rookie Champions titles 2011 in a perfect and sunny day in Ischgl, Austria. Among the many prizes awarded, there was also an unexpected extra ticket to Oslo 2012 World Snowboard Championships for the male rookie champion.

In a slopestyle consisting of 4 table tops and a big jib area, all the riders showcased an high level of snowboarding for the end of season Protest World Rookie Finals 2011. Also, in the tradition of the World Rookie Tour, the event was not only a competition but included many other activities in the 5 days program: avalanche clinics by Pieps, art workshops with “special” people by We.Art, shredding with snowboard legends from USA (Mike Ranquet, Terry Kidwell and Bob Klein), video premiere about the History of Snowboarding, and a presentation of Oslo 2012 World Snowboard Championships and W.A.S (We Are Snowboarding) by Henning Anderson, CEO of The Arctic Challenge.

The male winner of the event and new WSF World Rookie Champion 2011 is the norwegian rising star Emil Andre Ulsletten, who impressed the jury with frontside 1080, cab 900 and tons of style on the rails. Sven Thorgren from Sweden and Haaverd Bergheim from Norway completed the male rookie podium: all of them won a freeride trip to Chile with international pros to join the South America Rookie Fest 2011 in Valle Nevado.

In the girls rookie category, Katarzyna Rusin from Poland conquered her second World Rookie Champion title and moved in the position 20 of the TTR World Pro Rank. Valentina Barengo from Italy got second and Caroline Hockel from Switzerland third.

What? Katarzyna is Indonesian? Oh wait, this could also be the Polish flag. Or is it Singapore?

The groms section, reserved to riders borned from 1996 and up, showcased a great level of riding from very young shredders. Fridtjof Saether Tischendorf from Norway and Katerina Vojackova from Czech Republic resulted the male and female winners in their age groups, both shredding the big kicker line of the snowpark.

Straight after the event, the best male and female riders joined a Cooler and Onboard photoshooting in Ischgl, Kronplatz and Val Senales which will be featured in next season issues to present the rookie fest champions to the international snowboard community.

TEISSEIRE KID’S WEEK FREESTYLE TOUR

You’re under 16 years old, you love snowboarding and have been waiting for THE possibility to prove that you have what it takes to make it? Then this your chance to qualify for the World Rookie Finals 2010!!

The TTR World Rookie Tour is organising the Teisseire Kid’s Week Freestyle Tour. From 15th to 28th of February kids under 16 can take part in 6 freestyle competitions in different french resorts. The 3 best girls, boys under 13 and boys between 13 and 15 of every stage get a ticket for the Super Final at Grand Bornand on 28th of February.

The winner of this final will be qualified for the World Rookie Finals in Austria in April 2010! Besides the best snowboarders of each category in the Super Final win a Summer Camp from 3rd to the 10th of July at the Les 2 Alpes glacier, where there are going to be coached by real pros! As if this wasn’t already enough, each competitor will also score points for the TTR ranking 2010.

So you see: it’s worth taking part in any case!
