This Belgian dude first picked up the camera aged 8 and hasn’t looked back. Since the first time he strapped in 13 years ago he’s been training his lens on snowboarding, and snapping mates pulling backscratchers started to become more serious from 2000 onwards. Mainly shooting with Belgian and Dutch riders means there’s no shortage of eager subjects when it comes to throwing down the hammers in the European hills, and last year he was shadowing the Euro Forum team for the winter which he claims was a sick opportunity. The best place he’s ever shot? Easy: Japan. And to chill he likes nothing better than a cool beer and a chance to hang with his daughter and girl. Probably not in that order. Probably.
This Finn was nominated as newspaper photographer of the year or something in Finland and, according to our Photo Ed, is pretty much the shit. He’s also one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet. Why he wastes his time shooting snowboarding for peanuts is beyond us, but we’re stoked he does coz this man certainly gets the bangers 24/7.
‘Huggy’, as he’s affectionately known, is now Photo Editor over the pond at Snowboarder mag. We’re hoping he can still send us shots as over the past few years he’s submitted heaps of epic action, and the fact that he’s able to handle nightmare sessions on Absolut vodka makes us love him all the more.
Is he Swiss? Is he Dutch? Is he Australian? We don’t know, but the Verm is definitely lo-fi, and likes nothing more than making weird bleepy music in his cellar. That and shooting killer arty action and then having to beat himself around the head with a computer to edit his shots. He’s also the best skateboarder on the payroll, which would make him way cooler if he wasn’t so old.
